SSS Smashes Kidnap Syndicate In Edo

Edo State Command of State Security Service yesterday smashed a gang of kidnappers, freed seven victims of kidnap and paraded four suspected kidnappers.

Edo State Director of the service, Oluode Oduneye announced this while briefing journalists, saying the victims were abducted from different parts of the country including South-West, Niger Delta, Niger State, Adamawa and Benue State.

Among the victims set free according to him were the Chairman, Ekpoma branch of NBA and his three children; the Deputy Director, Department of Lives Stock and Water Resources, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Abduganiyu Abubakar; Dr. Adamu Umar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairas and Strategy, Niger State; and Abubakar Tarfa, Managing Director ABS Gorminers, Ibadan.

Others are Aminu Yau, Managing Director, Ahmu International Mining Company and Jacob Ipadiola Adeniyi, CEO/MD Topmost Resources, and Ngodoo Mbaume.

According to the SSS Director, recovered from the suspects were the sum of $130.000 and N10 million cash.

He explained that the suspects were arrested at different locations in Warri and Benin, just as he said that the arrest were made possible as a result of the cooperation of members of the public and good intelligence work.

This, he said led to the release of the victims kidnapped between 12th and 13th of November.He disclosed that the SSS worked in cooperation of the Police in Benin and the military in Warri.Speaking to journalists, one of the victims, Abubakar Tarfa 52, revealed that he and 1o others were held hostage for eight days including the lawyer and his three kids.“They passed a judgment on us that we should pay #10 million each. They carried over five AK 47 riffles where we were kept”.

He revealed that he was traveling from Abuja to Ibadan when they were kidnapped at a feeling station after Abaji town.One of the suspected kidnappers, Rufus Owigho 29, a native of Udu in Delta State who gave his occupation as a Disc Jockey confessed to taking part in the crime.He said he and head of the kidnapping team now at large had gone to negotiate for ransom in a hotel in Benin when he was arrested by security agents.

While saying that he was introduced into kidnap gang, a Benin by tribe in Warri who introduce him into the “business” and that they have been friend, Owigho who claimed to have taken part in kidnap business for the first time before his arrest, said he was lured into the crime after the Warri crisis when he was allegedly shot on the leg.
