Do you get remunerated for articles posted?

Well, you do get rewarded in kind.

For example, let's say that you are seeking a position in an establishment where good writing skills are required. It would certainly help your case if you can say that an article of yourse has been published here to good reviews.

Or if there is an idea dear to your heart that you wish the world to know about, then having it published here will not only give your idea a wide audience, but give you the opportunity to receive feedback that will help to improve your idea.

The ever positive SLB forgot to mention the joys of having your article trashed, your ideas ripped to shreads and sometimes hot abuses rained upon you, your long dead great, great, grandfather and your unborn children down to the third generation !

I appreciate that your post was in jest, but no - I didn't 'forget' to mention this. I know that it occurs, but I don't believe it is a reason to be put off from writing articles. If amidst the insults and abuse (which can be safely ignored as worthless) you are still getting constructive criticism, then I think on the whole, that's a good thing.

But I also didn't mention this, because I believe that lot of us have wonderful ideas that we are able to express in really creative ways. I also believe that NVS provides a means to do this, and I think I'd like encourage more of us to get in touch with our inner writer, get out there and let the world listen to what we have to say.

Don't mind me, I was just in as you would say (joking mode).

Actually, I think criticism is a good thing and tend to pay more attention to this than to concurrence with my opinions.

But Sho! sometimes it doesn't hurt to have skin like a ladies handbag (crockodile skin).

What you've done is to make a post in response to an article. However, that's not the same thing as posting an article itself.

when i email articles@nigeriavillagesquare.com the box is full. i'd like to post articles but i cannot seem to get to the site through the Submit Article link. It says i am not authorized.
please tell me what i need to do.

I do want to post an article but i can't do it for reasons unknown to me, a page keep saying i'm unauthorized. I have been registered over a year now and i am a regular visitor too.Should i sent the article to villagesquare email or something.

Hello Masamasa,

Sorry about the inconvenience - but the third paragraph in the article does say:

"After registering, please let us know that you wish to be an author by emailing us at articles@nigeriavillagesquare.com. This is so that we can upgrade your status to that of an Author."

Anyhow, the good news is that you've now been authorised to submit articles. Happy writing!

‘Nigerianising’ Village Square

Village Square is a good forum for we Nigerians in Diaspora to keep abreast of events in our ‘motherland’, especially people like me that have not visited Nigeria for a long time. The fear I have is that it may be ‘Nigerianised’ where you must know somebody before you can post an article, after registering as a member I sent email twice for my membership to be upgraded not even an acknowledgement has been sent to me despite being a member since 1996. Make we no spoil this good forum ooh. Abi no be una say and I quote "After registering, please let us know that you wish to be an author by emailing us at articles@nigeriavillagesquare.com . This is so that we can upgrade your status to that of an Author."

Mr. Dele Oluwole Sir, do really mean 1996? how could that be? how could be? The Nigeria Village Square did not EXIST in 1996! Did you per chance mean to write 2006?

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. As you may be aware, the site is run on a voluntary basis - the people who run it do other jobs, so there will be delays in responding to e-mails. As such, I would always recommend waiting a few days before concluding that the board operates on a 'man-know-man' policy.

However, if you had to send two e-mails, then you should have got a response. I actually used to get e-mails sent to that address, but that stopped a few months ago. However, the Admin does receive these - perhaps through some strange occurence, he never received it.

Anyway, I'm glad to let you know that you've been upgraded. Again, my apologies for the wait.

I registered in order to submit articles but the email and attached article bounced back when sent to the stated address; articles@nigerianvillagesquare.com. Below is an excerpt from the return message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Sorry, I couldn't find any host by that name. (#4.1.2)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too
long.

I also tried to follow the sequence above and post my article directly, but I got a message that I did not have permission to post messages.

Kindly assist.

The problem seems to be the email address you sent your article to - you sent it to

articles@nigeriaNvillagesquare.com

rather than

articles@nigeriavillagesquare.com

(No, don't ask me why the name of the board is 'Nigerian Village Square' and the address is nigeriavilllagesquare.com.)

Please try resending to the correct address, and we'll handle the rest. And if you have any problems, again, please let us know.
