I know I've been flippant about this issue, perhaps I shouldn't be.
Much of the trouble is not with God or his existence or non existence. The trouble is with man and what we make of God, his existence or non-existence.
Most of the popular views being bandied about God by popular religion in my view does far more harm than good.
Anyway: A few extracts from my personal (unfinished ) notes on this topic,
these are merely speculations. If you like cal it the speculations of DeepThough/Crazyfellow/Whatever

Some possibilities in nature or existence are as follows
1. Nature has a spiritual component and is beyond human understanding
2. Nature has a spiritual component but is not beyond human understanding
3. Nature does not have a spiritual component and is beyond human understanding
4. Nature does not have a spiritual component and is not beyond human understanding
These possibilities will be discussed in a little more detail as follows
1.
Nature has a spiritual component and is beyond human understanding
Proposition one is the default position of most religion and most mysticism. This position presupposes the existence of a God that gives rise to the spiritual and it is forbidden to man to totally understand the workings of this God.
If this be the case, there are further sub-possibilities such as:
a. There exist a spiritual plane , attendant with a deity, perhaps one identified by mankind and imbued with the attributes of the one known as an omni-creator God
b. There exist a spiritual plane attendant with a diety, perhaps one identified by mankind as God, but who is however not an omni-creator.
c. There exists a spiritual plane without the existence of a deity or force known by mankind as God
Proposition 1a usually supposes that the spiritual may be partially or fully revealed by this God, to man possibly only upon transition from the state of the material to the spiritual, usually through the gateway of death or more unusually, by earthly transfiguration. In that case, unless one subscribes to the spiritual belief that places man into categories going to a place of suffering and a place of pleasure,
death is our friend.
Regardless of the above, in some religious worldview, it is said that even after death, the full nature of the spiritual is still not revealed to man due to the limitations of man even in the spiritual realm and this particular scenario should be further considered and will be at a latter stage in this notes.
1b.
This is the position attributed in Platonic philosophy and Gnosticism to that of the Demiurge. Could humanity be the plaything of a deluded spiritual entity?
1c.
Could it be possible that a plane of spiritual nature exists without the existence of a God or is this a nonsensical notion?
If this proposition were possible, then, what could be the possible nature of such a plane?
-Chaos?
-Peace?
-Pain?
-Pleasure?
-Nothingness?
The possibility of a spiritual plane of existence without the existence of a God is one that hardly ever enters into the popular consideration as it would appear the human mind is largely conditioned to believe in the existence of the spiritual in parallel with a that which the human conceives as God.
Scenario 1 is quite possible , however, to my way of thinking, if either proposition 1 (a b or c), be true, it would appear to be a state of cruelty
In 1a)- The undisclosing but true God
A diety would have given man the ability of curiosity and desire while deliberately withholding the possibility of the satisfaction of such longing. This is akin to a man being given an itch and then denied the means to scratch.
To my way of thinking, it is unlikely that a true God would behave in this way
1b) – The Demiurge
Man would have been consigned to the dustbin of a mad creator.
This is possible but unsatisfactory and this is the view that appears to many atheists, agnoists and non believers , that adhrents of most religions unknowingly believe in. This is the God of (most) religion. A truely unfortunate, grotesque amd most unlikely intepretation of God
1c) – The Godless spiritual existence
Possible but baffling. Will be developed more fully
To be possibly continued if I retain my sanity......
