I am convinced that the lawmakers were not thinking properly on this one. If a man has a wife, why would he need to marry his wife’s mother or grandmother? Can a man legally marry more than one wife here in Washington? And if the man’s wife is dead or the man has divorced his wife, then the old ladies are no longer his wife’s mother and grandmother because he no longer has a wife. Who told you polygamy is illegal in the US? It depends on your definition of polygamy. There are at least 2 definitions:

1. the practice of being married to more than one spouses at the same time
2. the practice of successively or simultaneously mating with more than one individual.

Ahaa, now you know! Well, even if you take the first definition, I hope you know that serial monogamy is simply a variation of polygamy. You could be married to one other woman every other year and still be within the law, just not 2 in the same year. And with the services of 24-hour divorce lawyers, I wouldn't be surprised if someone was already attempting to put something in the Guiness book of world records concerning this issue!

Second, did you notice that the law does not prohibit a man from marrying his father’s wife? But the law prohibits a man from marrying his grandfather’s wife. This one baffles me. Is it that incidents of men snatching their fathers’ young wives away from their fathers are not probable?

In fact they are! Methinks that was a delibrate and clever 'side-step' by the drafters of the law!!

I mean, of what use is a young fair nubile wife of an aged tottering rich man if his son cannot....ehh....how shall we say?....fill the gap and protect the family's name?
