CHUKWUMA SOLUDO'S IMPUNITY
A very well articulated essay by Mr. Opara! Let's hope that Soludo's foot-soldiers don't behave here as they have done elsewhere by accusing the author of harboring anti-Igbo sentiments for the mere fact that he has refused to fly the ethnic flag by sweeping under the carpet the sins of the former CBN governor.
I also happen to be one of those who believe that Soludo has no business wanting to be Anambra governor especially after his proven incompetence at the CBN. And the way and manner the PDP is trying to impose him on the state is most obnoxious. Any decent individual would have refused the poisoned chalice of a PDP-engineered ascendancy. The desperation by Soludo to be Anambra governor even with the excess luggage hanging over him like an albatross does smack of impunity.
P.S. Here is an excerpt of my reaction to another article on Soludo:
SOLUDO'S INCOMPETENCE
...
The tragedy of Chukwuma Soludo is that as CBN governor, he and his propaganda choir seemed carried away by the man's posturing in our public spaces to the extent that they probably started imagining that their fool's paradise was shared by the rest of the citizenry. And Soludo was not alone in this make-believe world of the so-called technocrats of the previous Obasanjo regime. It is instructive that the stark blunders, outright incompetence, corruption, not to mention the suspected collusion by some of these "professionals" with the more sinister influences of Nigeria's sleazy economic structure, were either ignored or passed off by a complacent press as manifestations of something akin to genius! A case in point: These days, the former FCT minister who goes by the name of el-Rufai, is busy trying to re-write history with his indecent antics as he is confronted with the reality of his troubling sleaze and incompetence during the despotism of his mentor and godfather, Ali Baba, a.k.a. Matthew Okikiolakan Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo. And some souls seem to buy into his on-going pro-democracy/human rights abracadabra.
The terrible rot within the banking system under Chukwuma Soludo's watch cannot rationally be explained away by diversionary and mystifying incantations as to his educational or professional qualifications. Thanks to the current CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (SLS), Nigerians now know where the bodies have been buried in the wake of the revelations of the financial hecatomb that characterized the sector even as Soludo and his cheer-leaders were busy celebrating what they deemed as the wizardry of the erstwhile CBN chief.
Now, in the face of the mayhem our economy must grapple with in the aftermath of the banking debacle, it is in our collective self-interest to discard the temptation of nebulous loyalties by supporting courageous attempts aimed at sanitizing the critical banking sector, post-Soludo.
