| Re: .The Beauty of Growing Old Grandpa Sabella,
Top of the day to you!!
If truly you are 60 something years old as shown in your article about a forthnight ago, then truly you must have written this good piece out of sheer experience over the years. I couldnt help but read, re-read this piece very well, despite the fact that it was conveyed in pure comedy tone, it also contain good notes one should consider about old age.
Old age is dreaded cos it gives the impression that things may not go as planned especially in an uncertain environ such as Nigeria, also it is dreaded cos we have a highly risk of uncertainty as to what the future holds in stock for us, i hear the shout of PENSION SCHEME and OUTRIGHT GOOD SAVINGS.
Now lets laugh abit, is it true (atleast from your experience) that the Penis could fail in action at a certain old age? Haaaa, Sangba fo!!, Kamari ohhh, God forbid bad thing, kini kati gbo ohh and if yes, how do u bring it back to life? Pls address this very pertinent issue!
Miles of wrinkles..............sagged breasts......................fatty torsos..........to a once very beautiful damsel 40 somethings years ago? No wonder she died trying to tummy tuck recently.
If all these are true, i go just stop the clock straight and be a FINE BOY till infinity!!
Cheers,
Wale

| Re: .The Beauty of Growing Old I would never have guessed that we are dealing with a senior citizen here. Good piece for letting us know what it feels like to get old. You are certainly speaking from experience. The young ones will certainly take a page from you. Thank you sir, madam. The Planet

| Re: .The Beauty of Growing Old Last word: I am not quarreling with you…there is no need to; but you should have known that Sabella is not the same as Isabella or Isabel. Besides, when you hear or see Sydney, Toni, Tonie, Tommy, Tracy, Andrea, Kelly, etc, etc, do you just assume the person is of one or the other sex?

| Re: .The Beauty of Growing Old In the Nigerian context, a name such as yours is usually a female name. I am sure I am not the first to make such assumption. There are some names that are distinctly male or female...names like Andrea, Tracy are usually female names. Names like Tommy are usually male names and names like Kelly, Sydney, etc, have been unisex. Your name does not have to be Isabella or Isabel for us to conclude that its a female name. But even in this context, if one takes of the "I" in Isabella, we get Sabella, so you can see how easily confused one can be with such a name. You have to admit that you have a female name, nothing wrong with that these days, but that is what it is. Maybe in your generation, that was the in thing...bravo. The Planet.

| Re: .The Beauty of Growing Old In essence, you look forward to life. And to living. No matter what life brings our way, we must live life. Eleanor Roosevelt it was who said, “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.” In old age, as in our youth, we must dream and aspire; we must set sail to new adventures and meet new challenges; we must touch the flowers and the wind; we must drink from life’s nectar; and bask in life’s possibilities. Somehow, and unfortunately, some of us would lose our bearing. We would lose our zest for life.
Life comes at us in uncanny ways. We may lose a home, a job, a career, or things that mean a lot to us. Some may face financial ruins, illnesses, or debilitating injuries. Sadly, some of us would lose loved-ones long before their hour. Things happen. Life happens. Bad things happen to good people; and good things happen to bad people. Things we have no control over happen. How, for instance, do one explain why the kind and compassionate amongst us die long before their time, while the totally reprehensible tend to live for eternity. No one knows the reasons for such injustice. Even so, life must go on.
Old-age is a beautiful and satisfying place to be. At the very least, it indicates you are a survival and may have lived a life many wished they could have. Old-age is golden. How many summers and winters and springs have you celebrated? How many smiles and how much laughter have you witnessed or heard? How many chuckles and smirks. How many acts of love and kindness have you shared? How many times do you suppose you have imbued others with cheerfulness? Ha, the hugs and the kisses and hope and whispers and the cascading laughter that touched the heart of others. And the lives you have given and helped shape. And so, don’t despair over the aging process. Hug your body parts. Accept and celebrate who you are. Rejoice
Sabella omo bibi inu abidde---sabella kan abidde kan-----nice one there. i really enjoyed the article. God help us to live life and not just watch life go by---not just rat-race.
