A word on the use of the word A-K-A-T-A

A quick comments on this issue.
I have read with amusement, but its not funny, the discussion on the thread on violence between African Immigrants and African Americans the various descriptions of the word *****.
The fact is when used is regards to the African American, it is used as a derogratory word even though we now use it to describe them in everyday conversations. Its as simple as that. It was not the case a few years ago, but it is the case now.
However has anyone stopped to think about those caught in the middle? The families and kids of unions between Africans and African Americans? They would not understand why they are called these names.
And by the way, are, we all know somebody in the family or friends whom would fall into this category, who have gotten married to African Americans. So hence the next time you refer to an African American by the term A-K-A-T-A, you may very well be abusing one of your own friends or immediate or extended family members.
Finally, I just noticed we need to spell the word with dashes and hyphens, apparently the computer treats the word the same as *igge* hence the word is censored. If there was nothing wrong with the word, why is it censored? Consider that.

NAR,
This is one of those situations where perception rules. I use a-k-a-t-a just like I say kokoye/saro/oyibo/jamo/africo/naija; not as a derogatory word, but as a noun. What makes a-k-a-t-a offensive? I can understand and respect a person insisting against being referred to as an *****, but I am not convinced yet that there is anything wrong with the word.Posted Yesterday at 01:36 AM by Anike
