There's a lot of angst and rage about the current situation in Nigeria on NVS. Hardly a day goes by without someone writing an article or making a post about how terrible things are, how Nigerian leaders are running the nation aground and how we need to change. Of course, the trouble is that change isn't an easy thing - it would take lots of money, manpower and time to effect the change that many Nigerians desire.

The Turning of the Future on a Single Event

When I was growing up, one game that fascinated (and still fascinates) me is opon ayo (more commonly known as oware). I noted how placing a single extra seed in a hollow could change the total number of seeds in the hollow; this in turn could change the the effect of playing out the seeds in that hollow, which in turn could change the number of seeds in other hollows, which ultimately could change the way the entire game was played out.
