NNAMANI TO SPEAK AT VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY

PRINCETON, NJ: The Former Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Ken Nnamani, GCON will present the keynote speech at the Vanderbilt University’s conference on Democracy and Accountability in Nigeria: Diaspora Activism and Complicity, scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2008. The conference will take place at the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, starting at 8 a.m.
Nnamani served as Nigeria’s Senate President from 2005 to 2007 and Chairman of the nation’s National Assembly, during which he gained near universal acclaim for the transparency and excellence with which the National Assembly was ran, culminating in his now legendary pivotal role during the failed push for a Third Term for Nigeria’s then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Apart from receiving the second highest honour that Nigeria bestows on her citizens (Grand Commander of the Niger), Nnamani has since received two honorary doctorate degrees in Law from Ohio University, and the University of Nigeria Nsukka.
In his speech at the Vanderbilt University Conference, Senator Nnamani will address the topic of the “Nigerian Diaspora and Vision 2020: Learning from the Past and Leveraging for the Future" Highly sought after as a consultant and speaker on African leadership and governance matters, he will draw from the ongoing efforts by the Ken Nnamani Centre for Leadership and Development, a platform he established in 2007 at Abuja to facilitate qualitative and transformative leadership and development in Africa and promote responsible leadership, democracy, good governance and development through research, training, advocacy and capacity building.
Others expected to make presentations at the conference are Professors Patrick Idoye, Mobalaji Aluko, Kiki Edozie, Okey Ndibe, and Daren Kew. Omoyele Sowore of Saharareporters is also scheduled to make a presentation.
