... My question is why are some people extraordinary or should I say unfortunate ?
In a remote village in Indonesia, 36-year-old fisherman Dede struggles to live an ordinary life. He has baffled doctors with an affliction so terrible that he can no longer work or venture out in public. Dede has root-like structures growing out of his limbs – branches that can grow up to five centimetres a year, and welts that cover his body.
The mystery illness has robbed Dede of his independence and he lives in the fear that the welts, which first appeared when he was 15, may eventually cover his eyes and mouth, leaving him unable to eat or breathe. Dede's wife left him because of the disease, and his two teenage children are now being cared for by his sister. "I want to be able to provide for them," he says. "I hope I live long enough to see my grandchildren." But a far more troubling question concerns Dede – has he passed on his ailment to his children?
Dede's case has come to the attention of Dr A Gaspari, a dermatologist at the University of Maryland. He makes the long journey by plane, boat and foot to Dede's village in the hope of diagnosing his illness. Upon meeting the patient, Dr Gaspari cannot hide his shock. "I'm absolutely stunned," he says. "I’ve never seen anything like this before."
A physical exam leads Dr Gaspari to suspect that Dede's condition is wart-like in nature. The warts have grown and spread, creating cutaneous horns on Dede's hands and feet, and Dr Gaspari is concerned that they could become cancerous. "It is life threatening for the patient. It is absolutely real and requires attention," he says.
To establish the exact nature of the underlying infection, Dr Gaspari removes four warts and takes blood samples. The procedures are carried out with a basic medical kit on the floor of Dede's hut, and Dr Gaspari has to be careful to control the bleeding from the warts, which have their own internal blood supply.
With his samples gathered, Dr Gaspari flies back to the States to begin testing, while Dede returns to the only job he can keep. He is a member of a travelling circus clan, alongside other victims of terrible skin diseases and deformities. The clan's manager forces them to perform demeaning and potentially dangerous acts in front of large crowds. In the face of their adversity, the clan members have formed friendships based on their mutual status as 'freaks' and outsiders.
After two months of testing, Dr Gaspari concludes that Dede's condition is due to an immunodeficiency. Dede's immune system is unable to cope with the warts, which have grown out of control. "What's unique about Dede is probably the extent and severity of the infection rather than the infection itself," he says. The test results indicate that the growths are not cancerous and that Dede's children are unlikely to inherit the disease, and Dr Gaspari has drawn up a list of drugs that could tackle the warts. Is the end finally in sight for Dede's suffering?
As Dr Gaspari opts to treat Dede with a medical solution, doctors in Romania are attempting to treat a man with a similar affliction. A farmer by the name of Ion has wart-like growths on his hands and feet that have prevented him from working. But in Ion's case, doctors have decided to embark on an experimental five-hour surgery to peel off the growths on one of his hands. Will this risky operation succeed? http://www2.five.tv/programmes/extra...lfmanhalftree/ |

It is out of this world, just too wired.
Dew what will you say is the problem ?...
...Is it scientific (low white blood cell making his cells not being able to deal with the unwanted particules in his body...if I understand clearly) or
...Is it natural (some people just have to be unfornature or different).

Of course I believe in God not religion. Big difference. This world cannot explain itself, so I choose to call that puzzle God. However, with instances like this your story.......it is a God I neither love nor understand(don't know him that well). No religion has been able to explain that to me either. Just does not make sense.
When God gets things right I give him an "A++", when he gets things wrong like this half-man half tree business.....I give him a When he goofs like allow defenseless children to be killed and molested, I give him a huge "F++", since he is supposed to be the "defender of the helpless".
Now that is how my belief in God works. Not a blind follower, sorry.
With this your story you posted up there, what do you think of your "God"? Why did he create such a mess that can only bring misery to this man and his family. If you feel he has committed a sin that no one has committed in this world before, is it not better to kill him? What kind of life is this? He was only 15.....a teenager when this strange illness struck him. What kind of crime could he have committed I ask myself?

Dew, you have somehow pointed out what my beliefs are...I must say I understand you so weel and the fact we are all humans we feel the same way of wondering why things are like this since God has powers to make things good.
Nobody I think is a blind follower, we are just more understanding than each other. Its good you believe in God and that is what I believe in too....I believe in God in my christian (I dont go to mecca) way which is my religion.
lastly, beliefing doesnt mean you know everything about it cus even life they say "The more we live the more we know" so there are just something that seems to be confusing on why it happens. Does science anwsers all the questions or just give assumptions ?...there are thing beyong us we dont know or understand and this is my interest.

Dew is right.
A group of American doctors spent hundreds of hours of scientific research to come up with a treatment that will not cost his family a dime. I was shocked to hear at the conclusion of the documentary that the guy has refused to take up any offer of treatment. It was about six of them, his case got more attention cos it was the most terrible.

Science may not have all the answers...but it tries to understand at least....even those things that are beyond us. Thank God for science.
Meaning if they have made it in the spiritual way it cant be cured ?
Science tries to understand just the way beliefers tries to understand more about God also and so far there are some miraculous healings too (but its unfortunate some people dont believe it).

...Indeed to God be the glory !!! HPV? This one is worse than HPV in my opinion. This half man-half tree syndrome remains a mystery.
...Yes more worst than anything anyone as ever seen, it is not contagious by any means so he his the ONLY one with this disease. According to what they said and that I understand is that he has a very low white blood cell and like the dirts in his blood/system cant come out through the normal process rather coming out of his skin in form of this trees.
