The 20-year-old divorcee was executed on Tuesday after confessing to having had sex with a 29-year-old unmarried man.
Sheikh Ibrahim Abdirahman, the judge for a court created by the rebel group al-Shabab, says the woman was killed in front of a crowd of some 200 people near the town of Wajid.
The woman, who gave birth to a stillborn child, was buried up to her waist before the stoning took place. Her boyfriend was given 100 lashes for having the affair.
The woman's death is the second recorded stoning for adultery carried out by al-Shabab fighters, who are confronting the government and control large parts of Somalia.
Sharia interpretation
Al-Shabab are proponents of stoning as a punishment under their interpretation of sharia (Islamic law).
Mohamed Abdullahi, an East Africa analyst, told Al Jazeera that Islamic law can only be conducted where there is proper jurisdiction in place - not in a lawless failed state like Somalia today.

For those of us living in the US, some may have heard of the (recent) tragic story of a family that got killed when their car (a Lexus) accelerated out of control on its own. Toyota (who makes Lexus) attributes the accident to misplaced and/or improper-fitting footmats in their Toyota and Lexus cars from 2005 onward.

However, other expert opinions assert that Toyota is being economical with the facts, and that the immediate cause of that accident arose from a far more sinister cause having to do with the electronics of their vehicles.

Whichever is the case, for the benefit of Toyota/Lexus drivers in the village, I have posted this article below, which explains the problem and advices on how to overcome it, if one ever gets caught in such a hair-raising situation.

Please, read carefully and digest. One's very life (or those of our loved ones) may depend on it.

DW
--------------------------------------------------------------------

How To Stop A Car When It Accelerates Out Of Control

EVER had your car’s throttle stick wide open? It is an unnerving experience. You try frantically to get your toe under the accelerator pedal to flip it back up, while straining to avoid other road users. Seconds later, when you start thinking straight, you slip the transmission into neutral, coast carefully to the side of the road, apply the handbrake and switch off the roaring engine.

Stopping a runaway car is rather more difficult nowadays. Not only do the vast majority of vehicles on the road in America have automatic transmissions rather than manual gearboxes, they also have electronic throttle controls. Some even have electronically controlled transmissions that mimic manual gearboxes, which can make it hard to disengage the gears in a hurry. Invariably, the brakes and the steering are now power-assisted, which can cause further complications. Indeed, the only part of the car not to have received “drive-by-wire” technology has been the braking system, because of the unforgiving nature of any failure.

The technology comes from the aircraft industry, where it long ago replaced the rods and cables or hydraulic linkages used to activate ailerons, flaps and rudders. Though not cheap, using digital processors to send electronic signals down a wire to servo motors that mechanically actuate the control system in question reduces the number of moving parts that can break, get jammed or simply wear out. The result is less maintenance as well as less weight. As a bonus, it permits finer and more flexible control adjustments to be made.

Applied to a car’s throttle, the result is increased responsiveness and a consistent pedal feel, irrespective of the conditions. Drive-by-wire smoothes out the fuel delivery and acceleration, improving both the vehicle’s acceleration and fuel economy.

In a car fitted with an electronic throttle, the engine’s electronic control unit (ECU) computes the required opening of the throttle from data supplied by sensors that track the position of the accelerator pedal, the speed and temperature of the engine, the car’s road speed and altitude, and the overall load on the engine. Signals sent by wire from the ECU then tell an electric motor inside the throttle to open by the appropriate amount.

With the ECU managing the throttle this way, it becomes easier to integrate such features as cruise control, traction control and stability control—all of which require subtle adjustments in engine torque to be made independently of the position of the driver’s foot on the accelerator pedal. But drive-by-wire controls are only as good as their programming.

Though nowhere near as bad as with mechanical throttles, dirt and wear can still bedevil electronic versions. To a point, the ECU can compensate for dirt or wear accumulating in the throttle body—by making incremental adjustments that bring the performance back to normal.

But it is also possible for compensations made by the ECU to cause the engine to surge—or even to open the throttle unintentionally. If, in such circumstances, the engine starts racing, the last thing to do is turn it off. Unassisted, the steering and brakes could then become too heavy for the average motorist to handle. Without power-assistance, it takes at least five times the normal pedal pressure to achieve a similar braking result—something beyond most drivers’ capacity in a sitting position. There is also the danger of the steering wheel becoming locked in its parking position if the ignition key is turned completely to its off position.

Another instinctive thing to avoid is pumping the brakes. That only depletes the vacuum used to provide their power-assistance. A racing engine then has no spare power to generate more vacuum. Result: the brakes again become too heavy to be effective.

Even with the power-assistance working properly, the brakes on today’s cars are no match for a powerful engine racing flat out. Most are likely to be incinerated from the intense heat generated through trying to restrain a runaway vehicle.

The best advice is to read the car’s manual thoroughly before ever venturing out on the road—especially if the vehicle is a luxury model with power-everything, keyless ignition, a start/stop button and a “floppy-paddle” gear change. Learn the procedure for switching the engine off safely in an emergency, and how to disengage the transmission in a hurry. If disaster strikes, press as hard as you physically can on the brake pedal, put the transmission into neutral and switch off the engine only after the vehicle has come to a stop.

But what if you cannot get the car into neutral? The only option then is to go through the emergency routine for shutting down the engine while in motion. Normally, that means turning the ignition key carefully to its mid-position. In cars fitted with a start/stop button, that usually involves holding the button down for at least three seconds for the electronic throttle to get the message. Though difficult to resist when panicking, on no account keep stabbing the start/stop button repeatedly: it will have no effect whatsoever. Meanwhile, a vehicle travelling at 120mph (200kph) will cover a further 176 feet (54 metres) for every second wasted.

That is allegedly what happened last August when a Lexus ES 350 driven by an off-duty Californian highway patrolman accelerated out of control in San Diego county. All four occupants of the Lexus were killed when the runaway car eventually slammed into another vehicle and careered into an embankment. Though not the first time such a runaway accident has happened, the deadly San Diego crash has been a wake-up call for the motoring world—especially as the driver in question was an experienced patrol officer who specialised in safety issues.

Toyota has since issued a voluntary safety recall on some 3.8m Lexus and Toyota vehicles sold in America over the past five years or so—the biggest recall in the company’s history. Toyota blamed a loose floor mat for fouling the accelerator pedal and jamming the throttle wide open, and issued a video disputing news reports that the unintended acceleration may have been caused by other factors, including the vehicle’s electronic throttle control.

Last week, however, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) sharply rebuked the carmaker for issuing “inaccurate and misleading” statements that asserted no underlying defect existed in the 3.8m vehicles being recalled. “The matter is not closed until Toyota has effectively addressed the defect by providing a suitable vehicle-based solution,” said the regulatory agency. “It goes beyond floor mats,” an NHTSA spokeswoman added.

As a temporary measure, anyone with a Toyota or Lexus affected by the recall is advised at least to check that the driver’s rubber floor mat is installed correctly. Better still, remove it altogether until Toyota comes up with a “suitable vehicle-based solution”—whatever that may be.

After years of pretending we were happy we finally found the courage to end our marriage. It was surprisingly easy to do. We stopped loving each other. So much hurt, so much water under the bridge. Not having any children made it easier to put ourselves out of the misery.

I did not ask to keep anything. Everything he claimed, I left for him without a fight. I am a big girl and I can deal without the bad karma. Now he is trying to get me to stop using his name? I have used that name for years, I am known by that name, I have written in that name. Why is he doing this? I don't even refer to myself as Mrs. I use Ms. as the prefix, so why?

I am going to fight this modafoka. I will fight this modafoka. I let him have everything and he thinks he can take the name. Let him come for it. I am waiting.

Toasting from the '70s

My dearest, sweetest, fondest, fantastic, extra-ordinary, paragon of beauty a.k.a Bose. I hope this letter meets you in a fabulous state of metabolism, if so doxology. My principal aim of writing this letter to you is to gravitate your mind towards a matter of global and universal importance, which has been troubling my soul. The matter is so important. Even as I am writing, my adrenalin is 100 per cent on the Richter scale, my temperature is rising, the windvane of my mind is pointing North, South and East at the same time; the mirror in my eyes has only your divine image. Indeed when I sleep, you are the one in my medulla oblongata, and I dream about you. I went out to sea in my dream, and I saw you: surrounded by H20 and you in your majesty rose from the abdomen of the sea like Yemoja, the avatar of beauty. Oh, Lord be with us! We are thy servants. As you can see, I am in a serious dilemma. And I want you to take my matter seriously. At this junction, what our Lord said on this matter is germane. He says we should ask, and we shall be given, we should seek and we will find, and that we should knock, and it will be opened unto us. I am this 10th day of the seventh month in the year of our Lord, one thousand, nine hundred and seven eight, asking, seeking and knocking at your door. My prayer is that thou should open so that thy servant can enter.

I want to wake up in the morning and see only your face. I want you to be the only sugar in my tea, the only fly in my ointment, the butter on my bread, the grey matter of my system, the oxygen in my head, the planet of my universe, the wall clock of my room, the conveyor belt of my soul. I pray that you realise the gargantuan nature of my predicament. If you refuse, my life will be like tea without sugar, like a snail without shell, a Xmas goat without a horn; in fact I'd become an orphan. In fact I'd kill myself. What is life if I can't wake up in the morning and behold your face? You model of pulchritude, patiently created by God on a Sunday morning before he went on a deserved holiday.

Please Bose, let me be your Romeo. Make me the Adam to your Eve. Shakespeare said it all: if music be the food of love, play on. I want to emphasise, universally and responsibly, that you are love itself. You are the metaphor, oxymoron, thesis, antithesis, irony, gerund, conjunction and the adverb of love.

At this juncture, let me also say that geography of your body is a permanent allelluia. Not from your body, ammonia, urea and iodine - you are too beautiful for that, what I see in your body is milk and honey. At this juncture, brevity is the soul of wit. A stitch in time saves nine. Procrastination is the thief of time. An opportunity once lost can never be regained. Make hay while the sun shines. All that glitters is not gold. The journey of a thousand years begins with a step. What God has put together let no man put asunder. To be a man is not an easy task even if God's time is the best. But time waits for no one.

A man without love is like a fish out of water. I know you are a sagacious girl. If you like the veracity of what I am saying, please fill the attached form and let me have it pronto. The mark at the bottom of this page is a kiss from me to you.

I remain,
Your beloved, faithful, loyal, One and only admirer

Count1

As an Igbo Nigerian in America, I try to stay connected to my Nigerian people and heritage. So I always go out of my way to Nigerian events that I hear about, even though I don’t know anyone at the event.

No matter how many of these Nigerian events I attend my experiences are always the same. I have finally decided to stop going. I guess I place the same expectations on this event as any other American event I might attend. I expect to actually make some contacts, talk to new people, and come away with some new, interesting information. Boy, am I always disappointed!

As always when the invitation says 9pm it actually means starting at 11pm but I optimistically always get there on time at 9pm, hoping this event will actually start on time. I take a seat at the big round tables with 8 chairs surrounding it. If someone is seating on the same table, I try to start a conversation with them but as always they look at you like you have four heads.

The event finally starts, with a prayer that always take at least 20 minutes, after 8 minutes into the prayer I decide to sit down, believing God will not be mad. Then we have the Kola nut presentation which takes another 20minutes. Following that is the inevitable call to high table, “calling Dr, Chief, Professor, Uzoma to the high table.” This always takes nothing less than 30minutes.

In the mean time everyone is still seating to themselves. If they don’t know you they make no attempt to talk to you or get to know you. So am just seating down smiling and trying to jump into conversations where I can but everything and everyone seems closed off. So I Just seat by myself looking and smiling.

Finally time to eat, the only thing I can always count on, some good Nigerian food. After I grab my food and eat- it is then time for me to go, because I already wasted 4 hours and cannot imagine wasting another minute. So as always nothing gained, I would have been more entertained had I stayed at home and watched TV.

From the desk of Steve Shultz: A good prophet often prophesies what the enemy intends for evil, not only what God intends for good, though they can both be true. The enemy would like us to believe something bad will happen to this President.
Most prophetic words are to be discerned from a distance AFTER the event has occurred. For instance, God would have known ahead of time of the death of a president, John F. Kennedy. It does not mean he would have been a bad president...it only prophesies that God knows all things. I think JFK was a good president, but God has HIS own reasons for what He allows or disallows. We often don't know God's reasoning.
For instance, David is called "a man after God's own heart", but he sinned greatly here and there. Bathsheba, if the Church had its way, would not be in the line of Christ, but she was. So was Rahab. It's not for us to know why the death was stopped or another death would be allowed.
This is a very specific prophecy and does not negate our call to pray for our current president. If we don't pray for him, we are disobeying Scripture. We must pray for every leader, and it's not based on if we agree with all policies or lifestyles of the leader, either. In other words, God doesn't act like the Church. No, instead, the Church must act like God. The best prophets prophesy according to what they see or hear from God, and not according to their own opinions.

I just created a thread asking why I needed to sign forum rules each time I need to respond to a post or do anything at all on NVS. I had not received a warning then or a PM. My post was not rude or derogatory. Boy did I speak too soon. Next I know, I got this;

Dear MrsChocT,

You have received a warning at The Village Square.

Reason:
-------
Start your own topic

THIS IS NOT AN INFRACTION!!

Hi,

If you need to start a discussion on NVS matters, please open a thread.

We do not appreciate interjecting in existing discussions in ways that will derail the topic at hand.

And the issue you bought up in the "Admin has banned me" thread has been dealt with. If you have a new issue, open a new ticket.
-------

Original Post:
http://nigeriavillagesquare.com/foru...tml#post402862

Shoko, pls unban me from that admin has banned me thread...pls now..
Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.

All the best,
The Village Square

My thread....mind you a new one, was deleted. Admin, I say it again, all villagers are not treated equal. There are other villagers that make comments unrelated to the thread they are reading and they don't get this sermon or the PM you sent me.

Admin, I don't understand why you choose to single me and some other villagers out. If this one is not a wanabe dictatorship, I don't know what is.
This is getting too much....who knows, this post may not even last one sec..
