Mosunmola had an uncomfortable feeling as she climbed the steps, why did Baba Tolu send for her? She had caught that man staring at her at IfeOluwa's traditional wedding, she didn't make much of the stare until last week when she felt him undress her with his eyes. What was it about widowhood that made men "strange"?
Baba Tolu was a member of her church, The Apostolic Example Church, she joined the church five years ago on return to her old Firm. The church was close to her new home so she had chosen to fellowship with them. That would save time and petrol, her old work place and church was too far anyway. It took a lot of re-learning the whole church culture thing, since it was a small church (just 1,000 members) compared to her old church of (50,000), the first thing she had to adapt to was getting used to everyone knowing her business.
By the end of her first year, she had gotten to know "some" of every one's business too. There was Sister Teju who couldn't give birth, until God's mercies helped her sustain her last pregnancy, she had a baby boy last year after having four miscarriages. Some scorners had said she was a witch who donated her four children as "contribution" in witchcraft, there was brother Timo, who could not find a wife, yes, even though he was head of the Singles fellowship, he was always having a broken engagement, some of the sisters said it was because he was too spiritual, his head was in the clouds, that was until last month when he announced he was getting married to Mama Comfort, yes, mama comfort who was a divorcee with three children, how come? He had said God wanted to give him not just a wife but a complete family... then there was Baba Tolu...
She had reached the top of the stairs now, all she had to do was press the doorbell to get this over with, she paused for a second and prayed....

Mosumọla found a stunning Baba Tolu in front of her, clad in Maroon and white Adire Buba and trousers, he had opened his front door thirty seconds after she pressed the door bell.
"Sister Mosumọla, good evening, thanks for coming." Moving with the door which he opened wide, he motioned for her come in with his left hand.
"Good evening Baba Tolu, brother Damola and sister Fẹyinti told me you had to see me today. Is everything alright?"
"Everything is fine, please come in."
His grin made Mosunmọla feel a little uncomfortable. The last time she had been in this house, it was to attend the wake keeping of his wife. She had been new to the church then. She thought it was a queer house. Supposedly a story building to onlookers but behind it was a large compound with attached bungalows facing the other street.Every time she had passed the house she couldn't help wondering what was happening in the large compound.
She entered and waited, waiting for him to sit her, instead she heard;
"I hope you don't mind, but we'll be meeting with Pastor and Elder Jare, they are downstairs. Please come with me."
That explains why she saw pastor's car outside, she eased out of her discomfort and followed him across the room, the hallway and the stairs by the other side of the house. The smell of his cologne caught her attention, she knew that scent, but she couldn't make out the name at the moment. She asked after Tolu and he replied that she was doing well and was at his mother's.
When they got to the door that would lead to the compound, he asked her to wait a moment while he checked something momentarily. He came back after two minutes and with that nice smile, requested that she come in.
What Mosunmọla saw when she stepped onto the compound was astonishing!.....

With her mouth wide open and camera lights flashing, Mosumọla was dumbfounded. How they planned this without her knowledge escaped her. Pastor Bisi and Elder Jare invited her to the table. She could barely make her way through the crowd of her church members clapping and whispering as she walked to the high table. Her eye caught the "Happy birthday Mosunmọla" sign they had hung on the wall.
When she sat down the cheering stopped and Pastor Bisi prayed. The program took about two hours but Mosunmọla was in another world. She was going to have to watch the video because everything was hazy. Just the thought of being appreciated by her church was exhilarating. She cut the cake when she was asked to, she opened the dance floor when she was requested to and when she was asked to say a few words she did as well... at least she managed to blurt out a "thank you so much, God bless you, may we all be opportuned to celebrate good things about each other."
Different people gave her gifts, she was overjoyed. I didn't know I was so loved, Mosunmọla thought to herself. How did they know it was her birthday? Then she remembered the time sister Fẹyinti started the members welfare thing. Mosunmọla served her church in two capacities, the intercessors team that prayed weekly for the church, the city, and the nation, and the protocol department that ensured that administrative needs of the church services were met.
When the member's welfare sign up sheet had passed earlier this year, she had thought she would get a gift or something, that was how it was done at her old church. Everyone got a birthday card and a tape or CD on their birthday, but a surprise party for her 35th birthday, that was heavenly....

The sound of the door bell woke Mosumọla. She looked at the clock and saw that it was 9.45am. She had slept late last night. It wasn't every day one's church members organized a surprise birthday party. As she made her way to the door, she caught herself, she was in her underwear, she had returned too tired to take a shower before getting into bed, She had simply brushed her teeth, taken off her dress and fell into a deep sleep.
Mosumọla went to her closet and found a housecoat then opened the door to see Zainobe.
"Zanny, if I had known it was you, I wouldn't have bothered to look presentable. How now?"
"It's almost 10 O' clock, why are you still in bed, are you still coming?"
It took Mosumọla about two minutes to figure out what Zainobe meant. "I'm so sorry, I forgot. Can you go without me? I had a surprise birthday party last night, I slept way past my bedtime. It will take me at least an hour to get ready, that will be too late for you. I'm so sorry."
Zainobe looked at Mosumọla and shook her head. "Girl, you owe me. I'll come by later and let you know how it went."
"Thanks for forgiving," Mosumọla smiled. "I'll be waiting right here for you."
After seeing Zainobe off, Mosumọla knelt down to thank God for His goodness. "Daddy, I had a wonderful time yesterday, thank You..." Her phone rang, it was her sister Mopelọla. She and her sister spent about an hour on the phone with Mosumọla describing details of the party. Her sister was so thrilled that she promised to visit after church the next day.
"Well, well, this is a shame," Mosumọla told herself, "It's about 12 noon and I haven't brushed my teeth or taken a bath, what a way to spend the Sabaath."
She hummed a praise tune as she made her way to the bathroom, while dressing up she listened to the news and as she lit the stove to make brunch, the door bell rang again. She opened her door to meet a good looking-smiling Baba Tolu.

Zainobe put her feet up on Mosumọla's center table, while sipping her cold drink. "Thanks Mosun, shopping can be so tiring. So what did you do with yourself while I was gone?"
Mosumọla told her about the last few hours. Zainobe listened with rapt attention about Baba Tolu and his visit. "Wow," she commented, "Your church family is sensational".
"That they are," Mosumọla agreed, "but there's more..."
"Really?"
"When I saw Baba Tolu off to his car, he told me to stop calling him Baba Tolu, that it made him feel too old, and to call him by his first name, Paul."
Zainobe: Well, is there something there?
"I'm not sure. he did stop by to see how I was doing and whether I made it home okay but with the way he's been looking at me lately and the familiarity clause, I don't know."
Zainobe: Isn't that the widower man?
"Yes."
Zainobe smiled, "The man wants you jọ."
Mosumọla: He hasn't said anything, he just said he was in the area and wanted to check up on me.
Zainobe: That's what they all say. Has he been here before?
"No, he's never been to my place. What for? He's an elder in church, what would he want to come here for?
Zainobe: I say the man wants you, why didn't he delegate somebody else to check up on you? Isn't it generous enough that he used his house for your surprise party? You've not seen the last of him, he'll be back.

It was about 8.15pm, Mosumọla was rushing to the ladies' room. Prayer meeting had been lovely tonight. Every Saturday evening from 6-8pm, she joined with other intercessors to pray for her church, Nigeria, Israel, other nations and every family on the earth. A word of prophecy had gone forth and the prophetess, sister Ireti had received a word of knowledge for her. The words were still going on and on in her mind;
"I have called you to proclaim my word boldly, you shall stand before kings and queens, My name shall be revered among many through your ministry, I have seen your faithfulness, I have received your obedience, have delighted in your offerings, and I shall perfect that which I have begun in your life. Sing a new song, for the old shall be forgotten, the new has arrived and your light shall beam forth."
As if that were not enough, brother Bode had shared a vision he saw of her... "I see you getting married, I don't see the brother's face but I see yours and it is here in our church and I sense that it is soon, also, there is a child, no, two girls, it was just a flicker, a flash, the Lord will bring it to pass."
Now out of the ladies' room, Mosumọla pondered on the word and the revelation. Could it be that the time was near? She had sort of put marriage at the back of her mind, since 12 years ago when she last dated and courted. Why now? Why at all? She liked the way things were, my life is finally running smoothly, I don't want any stress, but I do want to get married, that desire had come up in her spirit two years ago when her sister Mopelọla had gotten married, well, I am the handmaiden of the Lord, let it be done to me according to His word. If God wants me married, then married I shall.
She hadn't brought her car tonight, she had wanted the exercise so when she heard her name called by the voice she recognized to be baba Tolu's she was pleasantly surprised. perhaps the elders had had a meeting while the intercessors were praying...
"Baba Tolu, sorry I mean Paul, what are you doing here, did the elders have a meeting?"
"No, I came here to meet with you."
Zainobe's words rang in her mind... You've not seen the last of him, he'll be back.
Paul: I know you pray from 6-8 every Sabaath, I was wondering if I could treat you to dinner?

Mopelọla stood in front of the mirror and admired the lace Paul had given her sister Mosumọla. "Sister mi, this lace is lovely, I like this Elder Paul o. He also gave you a certificate to the seamstress that will sow it for you, I am impressed."
Mosumọla added, "He took me to dinner yesterday, found out my shoe size and gave me a pair of shoes and a bag to go with it."
Mopelọla: Yet he hasn't said anything?
Mosumọla: Only that he likes the idea of spending the rest of his life with me.
Mopelọla: That's all he has to say, men don't get down on their knees like before.
Mosumọla: I think I was still in shock. I barely got over the surprise party, then he visited, the prophecy came and the revelation and there he was ready to take me out. Everything is happening so fast.
Mopelọla: Do you think he'll take good care of you?
Mosumọla: Of course he'll take good care of me, he's one of the elders...
Mopelọla: Sister mi, that's not a given, some of those men of God are secret agents of Satan. Did you not hear of the pastor's wife that got HIV from her husband?
Mosumọla: I'm glad I'm going away for two weeks, that will give me time to think.
Mopelọla: I wish you had his photograph so I could see what he looks like... she picked up the lace again and inquired; "Sister mi, we can both share this cloth, there's enough for you to make iro and buba and a blouse for me, what do you think?"

It had been a short flight but Mosumọla felt sore. Why was she feeling this way? The joy of the birthday party, the prophecies and the subtle proposal had opened up a wound she had spent over fifteen years covering up. It was a nice thing her flight was just an hour, she needed to soak in the tub and pray tonight.
Usually when prophecies are spoken over one's life, that means Satan will attempt to thwart one's blessings. "I can't afford to give up now," She told herself, "inner wound or not, Jesus Christ is the Balm in Gilead, He can heal every pain, this battle shall be won on my knees."
Mosumọla was suddenly woken up, as if someone tapped her, she looked around and there was no one there. Switching on the bedside lamp she checked the time. It was 4.30am, well, it was an hour earlier than when she usually woke up, but she got up all the same. After brushing her teeth, she knelt down by her bedside to pray... his face welled up inside her mind's eye... Wole, his face, she hadn't thought about him in years, why now? She discarded his image and replaced it with the scripture verse in Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Mosumọla got up after an hour of praying in the spirit and got ready for her training. God was at work in her and she was going to let Him finish His work.

"A whole day to myself," Mosumọla wondered, "what should I do?" Her training ended early that afternoon and since her return flight wasn't for another 48 hours, she wanted to spend this extra time wisely. As she opened her room she thought of Yẹmi her high school friend who lived in Abuja but decided against it when she remembered that Yẹmi talked too much. I've been listening to teachers for the past two weeks, I need something interesting not emotional, something relational not a chatterbox.
"I can't just spend the day sleeping," Mosumọla told herself, and "I definitely won't spend it watching TV", she glanced at her TV which was off, "I don't want to watch any films either."... then as she had made a habit of, she talked to God, "Daddy what should I do with my evening and whole day tomorrow?"
The image of Wole flashed across her mind again. That was the second time. So she inquired, Father, what is it about Wole, I've forgiven him, why is he coming up now?"
The still small voice of the Lord replied her "You cursed him, break the curse."
Mosumọla then remembered, she had said, "God will punish you for what you did to me." So that was a curse, "I said that in anguish," Mosumọla responded, "surely You've put that in the sea of forgetfulness."
The Lord responded, "I have, but you haven't."
"So I haven't forgiven myself?" Mosumọla got on her knees and prayed in the spirit again, on finishing she declared; "I call heaven and earth to witness that I break the power of any unwholesome word I have spoken over Wole and the consequence of such over my life. I speak peace to Wole and all related to him. Let the peace of God reign in his life and in my mine in Jesus name. Amen."

Paul opened the door for Mosumọla as she made towards his car. He was picking her up from the airport. These two weeks without seeing her had reinforced his desire to have her in his life. What was that Prophet Agur said to Ithiel and Ucal? - The way of a man with a girl are too wonderful for me and beyond my knowledge - Proverbs 30:18-19.
Since the death of Funkẹ five years ago he had resigned to spending the rest of his life a widower. Even though Funkẹ had made him swear to remarry, he had only done that so that she would die happy. No woman could do to him what Funkẹ had done to him, no woman could do for him, what Funkẹ had done for him, no woman could make him feel the way Funkẹ had made him feel. At least that was what he believed until now, the thought of Mosumọla made him feel warm all over.
Pastor hadn't helped matters by teaching on the Jewish wedding two months ago. That had led him to explore the feelings he was developing towards Mosumọla. He had begun to ask after her. She was a decent woman and although he was seven years older than her, he was willing to enter a covenant love relationship with her. She would be the perfect mother to Tolu and the daughter his mother lost.
Closing the door after Mosumọla sat down, he put her traveling bag in the boot (trunk for Americanas ). On sitting down next to her, he asked how her trip went?
"I'm glad you enjoyed your trip" Paul responded.
"How have you been? How is mummy and Tolu? Thanks again for picking me up"
"Everyone is fine and you're welcome. When it comes to you, the pleasure is always mine."
Mosumọla smiled, this man is not going easy at all. I'm sure he'll soon ask me what I thought of his comment - 'I like the idea of spending the rest of my life with you' - so? Christian brothers can be so unromantic. That was a comment, not a question and certainly not a direct endearment. He is still a little reserved, I guess I would be too, if I was widowed, but five years is enough to heal wasn't it?
Paul's words cut through her thoughts, "May I take you out to dinner, that is if you're not too tired?"

She wants a ketubah! Paul laid awake on his bed reminiscing his dinner date with Mosumọla. Pastor Bisi is to blame for this. He had been a member of this church for the past fifteen years, a year after it started. He was ordained an elder eight years ago. He had watched Pastor Bisi grow in his pastoring and had come to respect him highly but when he decided three years ago to begin the teaching on Hebrew roots, he knew something was wrong.
The teaching had taken two years with some members of the church leaving, but God had brought many more. The fact that they actually had a Shabbat service once a month had become a blessing. The adoption of a six-day to work and one day to rest policy had helped to promote his business and the acknowledgment of the feasts of the Lord proved to actually make people want to study the bible rather than run from it.
Who was he kidding? It was not Pastor Bisi's fault, it was his fault. Why was he unprepared for her response. "May I see your ketubah?" Mosumọla has asked, "Let me get back to you on that." Paul had responded. He knew what a ketubah was, the marriage contract, but he hadn't known that Mosumọla would require one. "What if she didn't like it?" He thought again, "What if she did?"
It's time I prayed. God is the only One Who can inspire and empower. He turned his head to the side and prayed in tongues until he fell asleep.

Paul sat down wondering why he had been summoned. Was this about the report he should have written last week? He would apologize, since the meeting was canceled, he had slackened as well.
Pastor Bisi: My elder, how are you doing, how is mummy, how is Tolu?
Paul: We thank God for His mercies, we are all faring well.
Pastor Bisi: How is your job? Is all well?
Paul: I thank god for His goodness.
Pastor Bisi: Praise God for His never ending mercies. You may wonder why I needed to see you urgently, it's because of a report I received. Usually, I stay out of relationship issues unless both parties make an appointment, however, you are my elder, so it is of utmost importance. You have been faithful and you are cherished as a friend, brother and fellow minister. I'll go straight to the point, several church members have seen you with sister Mosumọla since the surprise party, is there something going on?

It's too late to make church tonight, Mosumọla mused as she left her client's office at Lagos Island. Surely there should be a church around here i can fellowship with. She had gotten into that routine of going to church at least three times per week, a Sunday a Saturday and a Wednesday. When her boss had called her into his office earlier today, she knew it was a full-day's job. A part of her had wanted to request that somebody else was chosen for the day but her exhortation during her daily devotion had mentioned that one should not take the easy way out, but build endurance because it was the fruit of the spirit.
Mosumọla had grown in endurance alright... it was almost seven O' Clock and she had missed out on her church's evening service, but she was going to find a church somewhere here and fellowship. She kept on walking and her eye caught a billboard... a crusade, she looked at the venue and realised that it was about two blocks from where she was at. That should do, considering the circumstances. So Mosumọla walked to the venue and joined the sea of Nigeria women, men, girls, boys and infants, some sitting on the floor listening to the evangelist delivering the word of God.
"God is a God of miracles, the Creator of heaven and earth is still doing miracles, He wants you to live a good life, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, the greatest Miracle of all to ensure that you have a good life. Trust God, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you will be healed, you will be made whole..."
Mosumọla listened with faith rising up in her heart.
