Mrs ChocT, the wedding is next year oooo, easter.

The question my friend has is, is this type of list "normal"? The in-laws are from Akwa Ibom. In fairness though, he is marrying the first daughter.

Valteena, is the list really negotiable?

Some aspects of the list can be waived while some are sacrosanct. But he needs to cultivate the goodwill of any member of the wife's family appointed as intermediary or points person for the traditional rites for him to secure some waiver.

How can they be waived? and what do you mean by sacrosanct?

It means they cannot be waived, they are sacred and inviolable. Sometimes dictionary.com is your friend, when people blow big big grammar

Sacrosanct means stuff he must provide, they are inviolable, like the she goat, kolanut, palm wine, hot drinks, snuff, drinks, tubers of yam, salt, wrappers.

The number of cartons of beer for instance can be reduced, likewise stuff like wristwatch, underwears etc can be waived.
