| Etteh moves birthday party to US
When will we ever learn? Walahi, its becoming pointless discussing Naija affairs! I'm beginning to feel numb.
DW Source Etteh moves birthday party to US - She went to deliver lecture - Source
By Our Reporter - 15.08.2007
A good number of members of the National Assembly have been arriving in Maryland/Washington DC area of the United States to attend a birthday bash planned by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, Empowered Newswire has reported.
Etteh, who would be turning 54 on Friday, has invited almost all members of the National Assembly to attend the event expected to be held somewhere in Bowie, Maryland, where the Speaker is said to have a family home. A member of the House of Representatives confirmed that almost half of the members of the National Assembly are expected at the bash, among other top Nigerian public officers like governors, ministers and commissioners.
A source confirmed that the Senate President, David Mark, is also being expected at the event which is now becoming the talk of the town among some groups of Nigerians in Maryland. Mark is expected to arrive in his residence in Fairfax, Virginia. The speaker herself was being awaited as at press time from Nigeria, where the National Assembly is already on recess.
Details of the exact location of the birthday bash are being kept under wraps, but informed sources disclosed that the birthday event is beginning to raise questions as several members of the House consider the invitation a must because the Speaker is believed to have personally asked many of them to attend in what is considered as a show of support. Many National Assembly members are said to have abandoned their constituencies and other pressing engagements in Nigeria to make a showing at the event, while several others are said to have jumped at the invitation to visit the US.
Sources said the Speaker is already receiving various kinds of birthday presents from influential and powerful Nigerians and many more are expected to follow as the event draws nearer.
Etteh was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives in June, but was first elected into the House in 1999 on the ticket of the Alliance for Democracy, before she crossed to the PDP on which ticket she was elected in 2003 representing the Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole Federal Constituency. Etteh was previously the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives.
Born August 17, 1953, she is married with two children, both of whom are also expected at the birthday bash.
A beauty therapist by profession, Etteh has a Diploma in Law from the University of Abuja and her main legislative interests, according to her, is woman/child rights, equity and fair play, while she listed her legislative target achievement thus: "to develop the rural areas.”
Meanwhile, a source close to the Speaker debunked the report, saying that Etteh went to deliver a paper in America together with the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The source described the news as the handiwork of her detractors, who are working against her success in the House of Representatives. The source said “if her birthday coincides with the date slated for the lecture, must she ignore the assignment and come back home for a party. That is not reasonable,”( chei!! we're too clever by half for our own good ) describing the rumour as evil and incredible. __________________ "I think we can't go around measuring our goodness by what we don't do -- by what we deny ourselves, what we resist and who we exclude. | Re: Etteh moves birthday party to US If this story is true
I suggest that NVS organise a peaceful demonstration in Bowie
before the party and during the party with the permission of the authorities
There are many Nigerians on the East Coast, especially in Maryland

| Re: Etteh moves birthday party to US If this is true, this is a serious backhand slap in the face of all Nigerians at home and in the US.
Just yesterday, we read that some MPs travelled to Ghana and South Africa to go "monitor GSM reception".
I'm numb, but there has to be an articulated response to this. These guys are setting themslves up for a Rawlings

Now why is this picture relevant??? Quick Exam: DO NOT READ the caption, just look at the picture and guess who they must be and what is going on...
Now read the caption that follows the picture... Counsel to Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP in the last presidential election, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN) (left), his colleague representing President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, Damian Dodo (SAN) and Mr. Rickey Tarfa of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's legal team, at the election petition tribunal in Abuja... yesterday

So are these guys on different sides or the same side?

| Re: Etteh moves birthday party to US NAR, are you suggesting that just because they're representing warring clients, the lawyers should not observe courtesies among themselves?
At the Bar, it is the time-honored tradition not to allow client representation get in the way of friendship and/or observance of all courtesies/protocols.
It is assumed that members of the Bar are/should be above such pettiness, and are matured and dignified enough not to allow such courtesis, friendships and/or associations get in the way of counsel-client relationship.
The problem is that many clients do not understand this; they expect their lawyers to be just as belligerent to the lawyers of the opposing party, as they are too.

| Re: Etteh moves birthday party to US With all due respect gentlemen,
Let us not inadvertently take the steam out of the focus
on the obnoxious, loathsome and nauseating anti -Nigeria hullabaloo
Ette and her colleagues are planning
and the lawful ways and means of checking these insensitive
'political vultures' and vulgar and barbarous predatory band of
Nigeria's treasury brigands.
Cheers

| Re: Etteh moves birthday party to US Is she not from Osun?(Or is it Ekiti?) Either one will easily rank amongst the two poorest States in the South-West. Your people are living in poverty, and this whore is busy bashing-out with 250 law-makers. Prostitute oshi.
Instead of them to go and consult with their constituents to work-out ways in which the NASS can help meet their needs, they are busy globe-trotting.
Umaru must rain down on this madness. Because 10 years from now, nobody will remember Eteh as the Speaker of the House. All the blame will fall squarely on the shoulders of "servant leader."

| Re: Etteh moves birthday party to US I have loads of respect for this Woman-Speaker not for anything but the fact that she is the Speaker of the National Assembly amongst an army of men and the way and manner she had handled the bill on Female Genital Mutilation, Rape of under-aged girls and the Aikpintanhi case has really endeared my heart towards her but this birthday bash is a thorn in the flesh!
That respect don vanish patapata right away
Now, coming to the peaceful protest as suggested by that villager- I think thats a good idea to show that we dont like such parties at all
Nigeria will survive!

The problem with Nigerian politics is the default error function injected by some WOMEN in politics, or within the corridors of power: from First Ladies to "women leaders", to concubines. (Now, girls, let the thunder and tsunami be directed at me: I am full ready for the backlash to come. Hit me!)
