Cool Peter Odili On The Run?

Hi, folks!

Reliable sources inside the Brick House, (Government House), Port Harcourt, claim that the kleptocrat of Ndoni Autonomous Community, in Rivers State, Sir (Dr.) Peter Odili (JP; KSJ; MB; BS), is on the run. This seems like the beginning of what could be life as a fugitive in the United
Kingdom.

Sources in Port Harcourt indicate that the most corrupt politician that Nigeria has ever produced, Dr. (Sir) Peter Odili (JP), sent emissaries through his former ADC to Governor Rotimi Amaechi to please not probe him or anybody in his administration in view of the very wide collateral damages envisaged, especially as it relates to the devious roles played by various members of the former first family of Rivers State.

Dr. Peter Odili (JP) sent his daughter, Dr. (Mrs.) Adaeze Oreh, and her husband, the gold-digger Onwuka Oreh as decoys and forerunners on their expedition to London, 24 hours ahead of his hurried disappearance from Port Harcourt, with his wife, Mrs. (Justice) Mary Odili, one of the most brazenly corrupt judges in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for London.

Meanwhile, Sir (Barrister) Celestine Omehia, Dr. Peter Odili's so-called godson, is stranded with his wife and family in a spider hole in a mansion owned by a relation of Dr. Peter Odili, located at #5, King Perekule Street, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt. His uncompleted 2 billion naira chateau, just a kilometre away, is a stark reminder of the treasury looting spirit with which the Odili-Omehia conspiracy came into being in Rivers State.

This is the problem with due process, it is too slow. If Obj were serious about fighting corruption, he would have ordered the SSS to follow these Governors while they were in power. The second they step-down, they should promptly be arrested and escorted to a holding cell.

Nigeria's inability to hold these evil people accountable is making my blood boil. I swear, were I to be Head of State, no less than a third of the Governors from the previous dispensation will be rotting in the ground now. By the time we set a "proper example" we won't even have need for the EFCC. The Governors will take "steps" that there is no corruption in their State; if for nothing else than for fear of their safety.

Sure, why not. I am not sure if Atiku should be in the "starting" line of anything. In all honesty, a corrupt Governor is a much higher priority than a guilty VP.

If it were up to me, the following will be dead:

1) IBB (Corruption, annulment of June 12, unexplained political killings, and gross mismanagement of the Nigerian economy)
2) Abdulsalamy (Unexplained political killings, and corruption)
3) Gown (1+ million dead is unacceptable. Keeping "Nigeria One" is not worth 1 million dead, especially in light of the current failures of the country)
4) All Generals (400 or so) that served between 1989 with ties to the inner circle.
4) Obasanjo (Unprecedented revenue generation with little to show for it, extremely poor elections, and failure to restructure the country to better meet the needs of the people)
5) All corrupt ex Governors
6) All corrupt serving Governors

And a couple thousand orders that I will not mention, as they are not "top priority".

Abraxas, given your inside sources can you please tell me precisely:

(a) Why Amaechi was dropped.

(b) Also why is Amaechi so bitterly estranged from his erstwhile political godfather – Dr. Odili.

Please help. I really want answers to these two key questions. The Nigerian media as usual is MIA in addressing these issues.

Believe Abraxas and you will believe anything. First of all Amaechi is carrying a big baggage from the Odili days and Odili has his number so while he may enjoy temporary immunity I doubt he will be foolish enough not to let sleeping dogs lie. Anybody expecting an onslaught from Amaechi against Odili is naive, indeed very naive.

Amaechi is wiser than that, I believe is preparing himself for the new election which is almost inevitable in Rivers State and he would not want to be contesting from prison.

WHEN NDONI STOOD STILL FOR ODILI’S DAUGHTER
Written by sagir
Sunday, 28 October 2007

For the sleepy town of Ndoni, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers state, October 18, 2007, would remain evergreen in their memories. On that day, the high, the mighty and who’s who in every fabric of the Nigerian society descended on Ndoni, the home town of the immediate past governor of Rivers state, Dr. Peter Odili to witness the traditional marriage ceremony of the second daughter of the former governor, Miss Chinelo Odili to a lawmaker in the state assembly and a prince of Ogbaland, Mr. Uchechuku Nnam- Obi, the son of Oba of Ogbaland, Eze Chukumela Nnam-Obi II, who is the current chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The traditional marriage ceremony which took place at the palatial country home of the bride’s parents at Umuonyema Quarters in Ndoni, could not contain the over 8,000 friends, relatives and well-wishers, who went to witness what could be termed the marriage of the century in Rivers state. Dignitaries and other invitees, who witnessed the carnival-like ceremony, going by the number of musicians, comedians and cultural troupes that performed, included President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who was represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, Governor Celestine Omehia and his wife, Tonia, the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru and his wife, Dr. Mina. Also present at the occasion were the Imo state Deputy Governor, Dr. Ada Okwuonu, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ambassador Sam Edem and the former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Alfa Belgore, National Vice Chairman of PDP (South-south), Chief Godpower Ake, former governor of Cross River state, Mr Clement Ebiri, and former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Sir Austin Opara and members of the National Assembly and the Rivers State House of Assembly. Others, who witnessed the epoch event were the former deputy governor of Rivers state, Chief Dominic Anucha and his wife, former chairman, board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, state PDP chairman, Prince Uche Secondus as well as former ministers of transport and the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Abiye Sekibo and Chief Desmond Akawor respectively. Notable traditional rulers including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, King Edward Asimini William Dappa-Pepple, the Eze Ekpeye-Logbo, Eze Robinson O. Robinson, the Eze Rundele, Eze Stephen Alete and the representative of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Sylvester Ogu also attended the wedding ceremony. The traditional marriage ceremony also had in attendance present and past commissioners, local government caretaker committee chairmen as well as representatives of the Hausa and Yoruba communities in the state.

One of the main attractions at the event was the sophistication of the Dr. Peter Odili museum, housing some of the most splendid artifacts of the former governor’s eight year rule in Rivers state . From his coronation artifacts to pictures and colourful portraits of his immediate family, the museum was a sight to behold, as guests that witnessed the traditional marriage took turns to catch a glimpse of the spectacle.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Omehia described the former governor, Peter Odili and his wife, Mary, as an exemplary couple who have given the marriage institution a good image that is worth emulating. Omehia advised the bride to imbibe the loving spirit of her parents and enjoined her to make her positive impact on the Oba’s family. He expressed satisfaction that the union had been ordained by God, particularly as the groom came from the family of a disciplinarian and the traditional ruler of Ogbaland, pointing out that the integrity of both families was responsible for the large turn-out of dignitaries at the event. The governor stated that the presence of members of the state House of Assembly, executive council, the bar and bench amongst others was an indication that the entire state was standing by the marriage and also prayed God to bless the union. Also speaking, the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandison Jaja said by the marriage, the two families had been joined together and charged the new couple to work out how best to have a successful relationship. The groom, Uche Obi said he was excited to have such a large turn out of Nigerians who graced the traditional marriage and thanked them for the honour done to him, his family and that of his father-in-law.

Pre-Independence Dialogue
One of recorded attempts showing the willingness of the Ijaws to dialogue was that of King Jaja of the Ijaw kingdom of Opobo. As a result of the disruption to free trade in his domain, King Jaja had desired to discuss the treaties he signed with the British. On September 18, 1887, King Jaja was lured to a meeting with the British and was taken on board the British warship into exile in Accra and later the West Indies [Cookey 1996]. He never came back. The desire for dialogue caused him his throne, land and people. What treachery!
From http://www.unitedijawstates.com/our_voices2.htm

King Jaja of Opobo
(1821-1891)

Born in Igboland and sold as a slave to a Bonny trader at the age of twelve, he was named Jubo Jubogha by his first master. He was later sold to Chief Alali, the head of the Opobu Manila Group of Houses. Called Jaja by the British, this gifted and enterprising individual eventually became one of the most powerful men in the eastern Niger Delta.

The Niger Delta, where the Niger empties itself into the Gulf of Guinea in a system of intricate waterways, was the site of unique settlements called city-states.

From the fifteenth to the eighteenth century, Bonny, like the other city-states, gained its wealth from the profits of the slave trade. Here, an individual could attain prestige and power through success in business and, as in the case of Jaja, a slave could work his way up to head of state. The House was a socio-political institution and was the basic unit of the city-state.

In the nineteenth century—after the abolition of the slave trade in 1807—the trade in slaves was supplanted by the trade in palm oil, which was so vibrant that the region was named the Oil Rivers area.

The Houses in Bonny and other city-states controlled both the internal and external palm oil trade because the producers in the hinterland were forbidden to trade directly with the Europeans on the coast; the Europeans never left the coast for fear of malaria.

Astute in business and politics, Jaja became the head of the Anna Pepple House, extending its activities and influence by absorbing other houses, increasing operations in the hinterland and augmenting the number of European contacts. A power struggle ensued among rival factions in the houses at Bonny leading to the breakaway of the faction led by Jaja. He established a new settlement, which he named Opobo. He became King Jaja of Opobo and declared himself independent of Bonny.

Strategically located between Bonny and the production areas of the hinterland, King Jaja controlled trade and politics in the delta. In so doing, he curtailed trade at Bonny and fourteen of the eighteen Bonny houses moved to Opobo.

In a few years, he had become so wealthy that he was shipping palm oil directly to Liverpool. The British consul could not tolerate this situation. Jaja was offered a treaty of "protection", in return for which the chiefs usually surrendered their sovereignty. After Jaja's initial opposition, he was reassured, in vague terms, that neither his authority nor the sovereignty of Opobo would be threatened.

Jaja continued to regulate trade and levy duties on British traders, to the point where he ordered a cessation of trade on the river until one British firm agreed to pay duties. Jaja refused to comply with the consul's order to terminate these activities, despite British threats to bombard Opobo. Unknown to Jaja, the Scramble for Africa had taken place and Opobo was part of the territories allocated to Great Britain. This was the era of gunboat diplomacy, where Great Britain used her naval power to negotiate conditions favorable to the British.

Lured into a meeting with the British consul aboard a warship, Jaja was arrested and sent to Accra, where he was summarily tried and found guilty of "treaty breaking" and "blocking the highways of trade".

He was deported to St. Vincent, West Indies and four years later, he died en route to Nigeria after he was permitted to return.

Ironically, Jaja's dogged insistence on African independence and effective resistance exposed British imperialism and made him the first victim of foreign territorial intrusion in West Africa. The fate of Jaja reverberated through the entire Niger delta. Amazed at this turn of events, the other delta chiefs quickly capitulated.

In addition, the discovery of quinine as the cure for malaria enabled the British traders to bypass the middlemen and deal directly with the palm oil producers, thus precipitating the decline of the city-states.

King Jaja's downfall ensured a victory for British supremacy, paving the way for the eventual imposition of the colonial system in this region by the end of the century.

What a shameless group of people. You only highlighted he was born in Igbo land why didn't you highlight that he was sold into slavery. Normally you should be ashamed that Igbos sold infants into slavery, if Jaja had been unfortunate not to have been sold to an Ijaw family what would have been his fate in the West Indies or the Americas? would he have been able to survive the journey out of Africa? There are a lot of Igbos of slave descent in some parts of the Americas they still speak Igbo dialects you can go claim them, or why dont you claim Rice and those other fellows that could be of Igbo ancestry after all you people supplied the highest number of slaves from the West Coast. Jaja was born to an Igbo family, sold by his Igbo family as an infant, he was raised and nutured in love by the Ijaw family that adopted him. He was taught the skills that made him who he is today. If Jaja did not return to Igbo land even when he had the oppurtunity, your attempts to claim Jaja is simply futile. The way the Ijaws treated Jaja should be a sign on Ijaw descency, respect, and love for human life and human beings in general, and in case you did not see the topic is: Peter Odili On The Run? not the capture of Jaja? You are distracting people.

Hi, folks!

Reliable executive rumour, circulating among the crème de la crème of Port Harcourt, has it that Sir Celestine Omehia, (working in joint venture with Sir Peter Odili), has been financing non-PDP gubernatorial candidates to contest the legitimacy of the April 2007 elections, including providing shocking evidence of how he helped PDP to massively rig those elections.

It is not by his making!
