Boy o boy............Are these people serious at all? Lawmakers ask robbers to declare temporary ceasefire

The Ogun State House of Assembly on Wednesday appealed to armed robbers operating in the state and neighbouring ones to suspend their activities in the light of the junior World Cup going on in the country.
The Assembly reminded the robbers that any of their operations during the period of the tournament will give the country a bad name, as several foreign visitors are in the country now. Ogun is one of the states hosting teams in the competition.
The lawmakers agreed to beg the bandits during deliberations on the floor of the House, at their Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta complex. A member, Edward Ayo Odugbesan had raised an alarm that the Isheri bridge, which links Ogun with Lagos State, has become a den of bandits.
Mr. Odugbesan said there is a need for the men of the underworld to suspend their operations in the interim, because of the on-going mundial. The Ijebu-Ode International Stadium is one of the centres being used for the competition.
“I want to appeal to the men of the underworld to suspend their actions and operations in the interim because of our foreign visitors currently in the state,” he said. “Then they can resume thereafter, because there is nowhere in the world where robbers and robberies could be stopped from their work.” He then called on his colleagues to support his call on the armed bandits to soft-pedal because the situation is becoming worrisome.
“If foreigners witness the robbers’ attacks at this point, it would send a bad signal to other nations,” he said.
Police wake up
Reacting to Mr. Odugbesan’s call, the Speaker, Tunji Egbetokun, called on the police leadership to intensify efforts in ensuring that security is maintained in the state.
“I want to use the opportunity to call on the police to intensify efforts in checkmating criminals. They should please not relent in the efforts,” he said.
In a related development, the Assembly ordered the head of the Local Government Administration of Obafemi-Owode to appear before it next Wednesday for clarification on the budget and expenditure of the council. The local government official was said to have dodged previous invitations over the past three months – a development which the Assembly faulted at its session yesterday.
The lawmakers, therefore, directed the Clerk of the House, Demola Badejo, to write the official on the matter and direct him to report before it. 234next.com __________________ Agu Nwanyi 1 of Oboroland If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. What I want to know is if this ceasefire applies to them and the executive or just the regular armu robas?

Where are we headed in this country????????? The President has already set a precedence by dealing with hoodlums, can you really blame other political office holders who choose to tow the line set by Mr. President? 2. The country has descended to a state of anarchy.

well, we dont need to bother ourselves. its all about hardwork.
The only thing is that i have to sincerely appeal to Corporate Affairs Commision (CAC) to open a channel for robbers, kidnappers and militants to officially register their organisations.
Are we really supriseda t what the dishonorable members of Ogun state house of assemblies said? These are the same people who secure the services of these hoodlums during election periods. they know them by name and where they reside, they even know when they operate. If in doubt, ask Soludo in Anambra state.
I think the dishonorable houses of assembly in nigeria should all pass a law allowing CAC to register any group of robbers, kidnappers and millitants who wish to so they too can be officially recognised. 3. cliff

Only in Nigeria that law makers will be appealing to Armed robbers, In that case we the people of Nigeria are appealing to you the law makers both at the national, state and local levels to stop the looting of the treasuries while the U-17 event is going on,
My friends in Ogun state I think that it will save more money and life in the state more than what the so-called armed robbers are collecting.
How can a state robbers ask armed robbers to suspend there work while they are working themselves... go figure. 4.Tolani

When Militants get amnesty and pay, why shouldn't armed robbers get their own share? Kidnappers too will soon get amnesty and payoffs. 5.Paul I. Adujie

It is QUITE COMFORTING to know this state has an OPEN CHANEL of communication with Armed Robbers..... Hmmmmmm!
But, I would like to know when Armed Robberies are approved or acceptable and OK in Ogun state... just in case I need some extra cash and need to rob a bank in say, Abeokuta or Ijebu Remo... Will the Ogun state government enter a Memorandum Of Understanding with me then?
I am planning a trip to Nigeria... hopefully, all 36 states of our federation could expedite a Memorandum Of Understanding in every state with local and zonal Armed Robbers to cease and desist from any nefarious activities... during my visit and stay in Nigeria abi?
Perhaps Nigeria's National Assembly should enter MOU with Armed Robbers too? How about MOU with Unemployment and desperations?
How about detente with all those corrupt looters? How about MOU with everything which challenges our beloved nation? MOU with our national funk will be a great idea!
I applaud Ogun state for entering this MOU with Armerd Robbers! It is quite an innovation! ha!

In a serious-minded democracy, this statement alone is enough reason to vote this man out of office and continually haunt his future bids for public office. What a cretin.

Its been said that some of these people begging armed robbers for ceasefire arrived their state capitals with only a shirt on their scrawny backs, but having now acquired enough filthy lucre, they feel threatened by armed robbers! if only they had looked after the welfare of the electorate and their constituents, maybe the robbers population would have decreased. anyway, why beg for ceasefire when they can negotiate via amnesty,a la militants?they have not seen anything yet, those who make peaceful coexistence impossible make armed robbers reign inevitable. No wonder why their toothpastesmile governor called the state s lawmakers "illiterates" and "immature"recently!another great testimonial of "do or die"politicians.may i move the motion that the state s commissioner of police to invite the lawmaker who spoke before thinking to take his CIDs to the armed robbers next meeting!
