Shallow minded & shameless governor. More cabs in Ibadan would reduce graduate unemployment? What a dunce.

I honestly do not see anything wrong with a graduate driving taxi as long as it can put food on the table and pay other bills. At this age in time i wonder whats the big deal in being a graduate.
We fail to ask ourselves one question "How relevant are these certificates in our society".Example how relevant is History,Religious studies,Sociology and Anthropology in present day Nigeria.
Yet these same graduate who see everything wrong in driving cab in Nigeria would rather be a street cleaner abroad.
You can be what ever you want to be as long as its legal and able to pay your bills.
Sorry to say most of these modern day graduates in Nigeria can not even defend their courses.

Oh well, as the saying goes, GIGO-garbage In, garbage Out! So what else can one expect from an uneducated govenor and his equally dunce sidekick? But like Raynosa wrote above :

"At this age in time i wonder whats the big deal in being a graduate"
None at all, i suppose. This must explain why we have morons and imbeciles ruining, ooops running the affairs of states whilst educated people go around with begging bowls for "taxi cabs", just so they can put food on their tables, from those who have never seen the inside of a tertiary institution.

This epitomises what is wrong with our dear old country. we relegates educated people to "beggars" and elavates untutored individuals to run our affairs and then we wonder why nothing works in the country. This was the case on independence day in 1960 and by jove, is still the case, half a century later. Whilst we had the ilk of Awo and Zik in attendance, shagari won our votes.

So this uncouth illeterate governor believes the most affirmative solution to alleviate the unemployment crisis in his state, is to buy taxi cabs for his teeming unemployed graduates. This is a wasteful knee-jack reaction to a long-term problem by a clueless "leader".

Someone obviosly chopped money from the taxi cab buying.
What a shame.
The governor couldn't build an industry manufacturing even common tooth pick and hire these graduates,na to give them okada abi taxicab to drive.
Is this governor a graduate himself because he's reasoning like a commercial school drop out.
Let the graduates take the taxi though
what other choices do they have
They should go ahead and drive the cabs before they kill their mothers and fathers or go into armed robbery.
poor boys.
The girls can go into sewing I guess but the governor is yet to buy their sewing machines
wonders shall never end.

Which nija graduate would in his right mind go drive taxi in a foreign land if the atmosphere at home is conducive?and you can do what you like in a foreign land.which kind of country allows morons to be in charge while trained minds do unskilled jobs?its the ingredient of a revolution.imagine if each graduate had been given an option to set up a cottage industry with the cost price of each cab?pray for nija to wake up to the provocative actions of our ruinners.

You call an "achievement"being widely celebrated in oyo state as a breakthrough as "madeup" story by Agens!go to ibadan and see the shinny taxis, hundreds of them!and i am willing to wager with one hundred heads of cows that most of the beneficiaries would not be graduates, except those graduates of Adedibu Faculty of Political Brinksmanship!so how have the genuine graduates benefitted from the largesse?

Could it be conjuctivitis, cataract or apolo that blocked your seeing the reasons WHY graduates MUST NOT be taxi drivers?you argue exactly like Obj that degrees in history, religion, sociology and anthropology are useless to present day needs!!!!!how i wish you could search for and read Reuben Abati s riposte to obj s views on the subject.your eyes will open wider and you ll be wiser.

------------

This is the first positive news to emanate from Oyo State since the murder of Bola Ige.

I hope that my good friends tonsoyo and Ajimoh will seize this rare opportunity with both hands and return home immediately. It is definitely more dignifying to be a taxi driver in Ibadan than to be checking in and out of rehabs or being a mortuary attendant in the UK.

Kudo's to Governor Akala...

On the one hand, what is wrong with Graduates driving taxis? Nothing. On the other hand is this all that could be done to solve the employment problems his graduates have? What are the other solutions he has?

People! You are missing the point here. Graduates in Nigeria are already doing whatever will pay the pills be it mechanic, traders, Okada riders, armed robbers and even kidnappers.

This act by this governor is as stupid as they come (from a fiscal responsibility point of view) but a master stroke from an Egunge generation point of view.

I will not be surprised if these taxis cost per unit (to Oyo State Govt) more than a brand new luxury bus.

agensheku,
To start with do have a score to settle with Akala, secondly are you a graduate, thirdly are you looking for a job?.
I find it difficult to believe at this age and time poeple still believe one university degree is automatic key to success and wealth.
How can you make wealth if you don't INVENT or INVEST,my friend even in the developed world you still find graduate doing odd jobs as a means of survival. There was a time in the UK when their was a shortage of skilled PLUMBERS,because of this we had lots of graduates training to become PLUMBERS.
I don't need to read Abati's view on this because he has used/using his social skills to get to were he is today.Mind you he started from some were.

For your information do you know Yardua and Goodluck(President and Vice) are both graduates. And how have they done better than Shagari.
Having a University education is not the thing but having the will power to do what is right and succeed is what matters.

No,yes, and NO to your first three questions.now,if Reuben Abati had post- graduation been made a taxi driver, how shall we today be exposed to his brilliant mind?Nigeria of today is not so bad as to make taxi drivers of graduates when people with forged Olevels are chairmen of councils, councillors, etc, etc.let people like you continue to cover up for the Akalas till there is a volcanic eruption of frustrated graduates,we shall see how you people will contain it.until then,pinpin...pinpin,watch out for that taxi!
