Latee,
I'm also trying to lose some weight, about 15 - 20 pounds. My usual size (past 2 years or so) was petite US 6 and I wasn't doing any funky dieting and exercising. However, I used to be a 4 when I was younger and frequented the gym. I want to go back to that before age and family starts catching up with me. I added some pounds when I went back to naija last christmas and then all the enjoyment that followed. I woke up a few months ago and realised I had passed my watershed which used to be 140 pounds. And then my usual jeans refused to pass my bum, ewooo. Thus began operation lose the pounds.
Anyway like Anony I don't have a time target, I want to make it a lifestyle. We've been exercising to biggest loser maximum results DVD for the past 3 months, at least 2 days a week. I also have a dance cardio DVD which I do a few mornings with an Ab crunch machine. Recently I noticed I'd lost about 5pounds which was even faster than I thought. Maybe that's because I've also been watching when I eat recently and not trying to match Shoks (He counts the cals for both of us). I want to get below my watershed by Christmas and continue like that. As they say, na small small, they dey take kill rat...

The problem for me is beer, and it probably accounts for the 15kg i have put on in the last decade (my gut brings tears to my eyes) - have taken up soccer & tag rugby again, the sit-ups & ab crunches are a pain (so i just forget about them), also eating less (which is absurd considering i already have one of the worst diets/appetites known to man), so hopefully should lose 5-10kg in the next few months

The words of that song are off the chain. Lateesha,
thanks for taking it in good humour. Actually you are right. I prefer my woman to be curvy, buxom and have as rear that will bring tears to one' eyes. Tears of joy!
Weight is a challenge for me too. I was a waist 26 in my teens, 26 in my late 20s, 32 in my late thirties, shot up to 36 in my early forties and have been struggling to remain at 35 from my late 40's. Luckily my stomach is flat from years past years of martial arts training and I've tried to maintain that through avoiding starchy foods and not eating 'okele (swallow) after 7pm.
I don't exercise, but I am not sedentary in my occupation. I move around a lot. I don't drink sodas, do not fill my plate with food on the knee-jerk belief that every space must be covered. Once I have finished what is on my plate I do not go for seconds no matter how great the desire.
Then over here we have a challenge. Almost everyone cooks with MSG these days including the fast-food joints, bukas and some restaurants, so I am careful where I eat out or send for food. MSG bloats the body.
I don't drink beer and don't eat after 7pm. I love wine but have started getting gouty so I can't indulge as often as I would like to. I am allergic to a whole lot of stuff, shellfish, ugu, uziza, scaleless fish, etc that I am a poor eater except where all these are safe.
I think slimming is a mindset, needing you to seriously desire to stop eating those things that make you fat. Don't wait till health conditions create dietary restrictions for you.

| Re: Help!, I am fat and getting fatter,do I look fat? @ Lateesha..
Weight loss, is goal attainment, and like all goal attainment projects, It's only possible if you arm yourself with the right set of tools that give you the skill set, that'll make your goal attainment feasible.
These are usually
a) Information
b) self awareness
c) enabling environment
d) good reward strategy. Foundation first
Whether its gunning for that promotion at work, or getting to learn a new language, or learning a new skill, One will need both consistency and motivation.
Whilst motivation may change from day to day...even minute to minute, since one could go from being motivated by the need to look, like the smokin' hot babe in those Victoria Secret lingerie ad, for your Tiger, one minute, to being able to run after and catch your irksome preteen the next.
However, Your commitment must absolutely never waver.
Once you understand that your motivation for weightloss can and will change constantly.
One also needs to take on board that one's Commitment to staying the course even after you have demolished a whole pallet of Ben&Jerry's. Or single handedly demolished an ant hill sized loaf of bread. Must be firm. Step I (Information)
Keep a food dairy for at least one week. more if possible.
Information is power.
you cannot change what you do not know.
you may think its the bread, whilst unbeknownst to you, it could be the little bits of nuts, or other calorie dense nibbles, that you grab and not notice that is causing the gain.
to that end....log every single morsel that passes your lips.
So you can get a good idea of what you are eating.
Also note what time you eat, so you can devise a good strategy, for pre emptive action, so that you can head off hunger before it derails your well made plan.
Know Why you eat....Could you be an emotional eater and not know?
Personally, I love to commune with Ben & Jerrys when I am Tired, Hurt, Stressed or Miss my family when I am away from home.
Now that I know when I need my pals, I can address why I need them without resorting to numbing my feelings from unwanted/unwelcome emotions, by scoffing comfort food. Step 2 (Self awareness....)
Know your eating personality.
What kind of eater are you....A portion distortioner?
a chop and clean mouth?....a peck peck peck all day long and announce I have hardly eaten today?
knowing your eating personality, will make your effort less stressful since you will then use your strenghts to achieve your goals.
Also know your trigger foods...its a waste of time telling yourself that you will only have a piece of something, when you know that in the decades since God put you on earth, you have never walked away from a packet of biscuits, unless its empty.
Pick your battles....There are times when only the warm comfort of a piece of freshly baked bread will do...in which case eat the Bread, savour every mouthful of it...and then pick yourself right off the ground and get back on the wagon....such is life.
Are you hungrier in the mornings or later in the day?
Do you find that its easier for you to eat lighter meals in the evening, and heavier ones earlier or vice versa?
Knowing these will enable you plan your meals accordingly and thus strategise as to what best works for you. Step 3 (Enabling environment)....Have the kinds of food that will make your goal more attainable, and have less or non of those ones, that make temptation hard.
Create a support system and make yourself accountable.
Whether its Tiger, the kids, NVS or real life....make yourself accountable and you will find that it will make you weigh your options before you give in to temptations.
Remember if it aint there, you aint eating it...so make a realistic audit of the temptations you really need in your home and those you don't, so you can make your effort easier. Step 4( Reward victories big and small.)
By this I don't mean celebrating losing a dress size by hitting the" All you can eat" buffet at Bellagio...it could be rewarding yourself with an extra long soak with that new bathsalt you have always wanted to try.
A new set of pretty lingerie,
A spa day, you can even make this more special, by having a masseuse come to the house and give you and Tiger one together. (Try it...its awesome)
or painting your toenails that pretty nail polish that makes you feel like Julia Roberts in pretty woman, and driving Tiger to distraction by waving them pretty feet at him.
The important thing is to acknowledge that your effort is paying off,no matter how small the victory...its the little ones that over time add up to the big ones.
Okaaay I need to get some work done...next Post, l'll post about the enjoyable part of the equation...Exercise.
whilst the eating part is about what you abstain or restrain yourself from, the Exercise part is about all the Fun things you get to do, and enjoy whilst on the journey.
And all the sexy pretty gear you get to wear doing it. |

| Re: Help!, I am fat and getting fatter,do I look fat? Latee, I will say drink water and more water that there would be no urge for soda or any beverage. I usually add a pinch of salt to my bottle water and drink direct from the bottle, that way I have enough. As for food, I go for sea food, and little of white meat, red meat is a no no. above all I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. I don’t do exercises if not dancing nor go to gym. Me I don’t like gym for anything; so I avoid going there

Which planet did you evolve from Agens??? LWKMD for this your advice o....Cow herder k e? Work in a bakery?? You sir are one funny person.....But before latee baby considers this your advice, we need to confirm its authenticity....e.g. did it work for you?
DePee.....From your post, my key learning point is that the love of beer is the beginning of obesity
LateeBaby......You'll get there. Just take it one step at a time. But from your pix i personally don't think you're as big as you think.........One of my colleagues came down to a size 12 from 16+......She used to go for this steam therapy that melts fat of you plus lots of massage........you could try that.
Plus have you tried dieting according to your blood Group? The truth is bread might be good for your blood group. Some other foods might be responsible for the extra weight. Try to google it and see. It works too. What with the exercises you have started again, We should see latee ver 1.8 in a short while.

Beer will do more damage than good.As for Ph3y,there is no way you work in bakery as ovenloader that you wont lose weight, unless you are hiding hot bread inside your belle!as for cowherder, show me a fat cow herder and he must be a politician assisting his dad.the secret of my slim fit appearance lies with my wife.my gym size is 7x6ft and my wife is my chief coach!very cooperative.BEDMINTON is nature s natural cure for getting fat but because some women have commercialised it,they keep getting fat.because when megida says SHALL WE,na then she go get migraine!thank you my dear wife.may your God made vono not run flat,AMEN. |
