Default Letter To The Nigeria High Commission, Uk On Mrs Balogun-oke & Her Achieving Quads

"To celebrate genuine progress, excellence, commitment, selfless and unalloyed service to Nigeria and her people"

His Excellency, Dr Dalhatu Tafida
The High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Kingdom,
Nigeria House
9 Northumberland Avenue
London WC2N 5BX
05 September 2008

Your Excellency, Dr Dalhatu,

AN EXTRA-ORDINARY NIGERIAN SUCCESS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM BY MRS JULIANAH BALOGUN-OKE AND HER QUADRUPLETS

The CHAMPIONS FOR NIGERIA (CFN) would like to request Your Excellency and indeed the Federal Government of Nigeria to use your good offices to support and formally recognise the outstanding accomplishments of the Nigerian Quadruplets who distinguished themselves in the recently released A-Level Examinations in the United Kingdom. As recently publicised by numerous TV and print media all over the United Kingdom (i.e. BBC, ITV, Daily Mail, The Times, The Evening Standard, The Independent, The Guardian, etc), Mrs Julianah Balogun-Oke, as a single parent, single-handedly raised the quadruplets against all economic, prejudicial and social odds – Tayo, Tosin, Tolu and Tobi into limelight through hard work, dedication and exemplary parental support. This is legendary as this has never been achieved by anyone in this world in living memory.

This has been achieved by this humble and patriotic Nigerian mother in the United Kingdom, under your Excellency’s watch. We at the CHAMPIONS FOR NIGERIA see this as a true Nigerian real-life success worthy of your attention and deserved accolade. This is an act that we at the CFN strongly feel should be promoted, encouraged and celebrated. As the country plans its 48th Independence Anniversary, it would be diplomatically pertinent for Your Excellency to pay tribute to this extra-ordinary family and bring this to the attention of the Mr President, as an example and evidence of a true Nigerian success in the Diaspora. In addition, we would consider it, as you kindly would too, inspirational that you recommend these extra-ordinary Nigerian Ambassadors of Intellectual and Moral Achievements, be given full Federal Government Scholarship Award by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It will be in tandem with your avowed promise on resumption of duty as Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, that you will promote and celebrate Nigeria’s good image in the UK. The British media have publicly recognised this as an extra-ordinary milestone in various ways; we therefore would anticipate that Nigeria, as a nation of great minds and people, would take a cue and rejoice with this unique achievement of one of our citizens in the United Kingdom. We at CHAMPIONS FOR NIGERIA would be happy to facilitate this ceremony of formal recognition jointly and we would be happy that you set the High Commission’s machinery in motion for this outstanding and timely Nigerian Celebration.

These children are of Nigerian parentage and would probably be experiencing their first interaction with Nigeria at this point of their celebrated success. It would be appropriate and good for posterity that the Offices of Your Excellency sees the good in joining Mrs Balogun-Oke in seeing these quadruplets to a successful university education by offering them an unconditional and full scholarship funding for the tenure of their university education.

The CFN strongly believes that if a single parent can go this far with a set of quadruplets, there is nothing too much in seeking a national celebration for a ‘job-well-done’ by the distinguished children and their mother who stood by them through their formative years.

We are very optimistic of your favourable response in this regard and we look forward to your leadership and initiative in no distant future.

Thank you so much, Your Excellency, Dr Dalhatu Tafida

We are,
Yours sincerely,

CHAMPIONS FOR NIGERIA

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, this proved to be just that - A Letter. There was no acknowldgement nor response from our High Commission.

But on the positive side, and very commendably, Governor Fashola of Lagos State came all the way from Nigeria to present Mrs Balogun-Oke with an Award at a well-attended event.

The difference is clear.

You forget to mention that BRF acknowledged & presented the Award exactly three (3) months since the letter was dated - 05th December 2008.

May our children be blessed enough with enough wisdom to sit at the city gates, successfully directing the affairs of nations.

Mrs Balogun - Oke's powerful response speech left nothing to be desired.
