| Re: The Nigerian Press and Creative Headline Writing Good observation. I have observed this trend missing in Nigeria journalism- no exception and wondered why. All we get are over-sensationalized and screaming headlines without substance like some western tabloids.
I have long concluded that the Nigerian journalists at this time are some run-away trains.
The beauty of a newspaper here is a creative headline.
I remember when the Philadelphia Sixers (basketball team) won the divisional title through the incredible skill of Allen Iverson the then franchise player for the team, everybody showed up in the street the following day in Allen Iverson Number 3 jersey.
The Philadelphia Daily News did a story on that dressing the following day and titled their headline - Philadelphia is Allentown. There is a smaller but a popular town outside of Philadelphia known as Allentown.
Most people on seeing the headline wondered what is it between Philadelphia and Allentown, until the story told them how Philadelphia had worn the Allen (Iverson) look the previous day.
