Have not seen the role played by Nigeria yet....
Madam, I think the clue is in the article: The idea of using “diplomatic crates” must be a Nigerian invention--a touch of mediocrity and incompetence, if you ask me. This is probably true because there is no record—from available evidence—of the Israelis secret services using diplomatic crates. Why would they, when it could have been easier to hire private aircraft to smuggle him out of the UK without using the airports. This could easily have been done with the help of local Sayanims; and from one of many disused airfields, farmlands, etc.

In my opinion, Mossad made a couple of 'delibrate' mistakes.
Sir Guda, you might be right but ponder on the following:

(1) Is Israel/Nigeria relationship worth jeopardizing Israeli/UK relationship?
(2) Would the Israeli risk tarnishing Mossad reputation (built over the years) by indulging in mediocrity and incompetency?—A blunder to be precise. But then, “mistake respects no man”
