| Re: Deja Vu 4: The secret of Jakande`s Success in Lagos State I gained a great respect for this man and his administration over a period of time. I KNOW what he did WORKED and made so much of a difference. He is the only Nigerian politician that has my respect. I do not know him or ever met him.
There was also the state directive on sanitation and health which made it compulsory for all households to have pit latrines. It obviously did irreparable damage to the water table but it made a big difference in the standard of daily living for many Lagosians who still I guess live in their self induced closely packed, one room squalor. The man appreciated the environment.
I am apolitical... I must stress that. I have no respect for people who simply due to the fact that they had a little power acted in their own destructive self interest. For me, any person who ever wore a uniform in the service of the country and broke their oath of service to be part of the illegal military dictatorships, does not warrant a mention. I call them all Illegals.
This man DID stuff. It is still evident today. Lots of folks got a great start through Jakande schools and colleges.
That Metroline demise... The fact that the destroyer of that project, (the Chief Illegal Buhari), has the temerity to stand for office again is a sad indictment of what the Nigerian state has become.
It does not matter what or who Mr Jakande had associations with. Before he died Awolowo had associations with The Illegals, (Military Junta). So did Soyinka and many others. I remember the pictures in the newspaper of them all beaming with the Illegals.
If that is the only reason why he is not being given a the chance to contribute to the future of the country then it is a really sad state of affairs. If he was corrupt during that period I did not know or even care. I saw what he did to change things on the ground with my own eyes.
It is obvious considering the state of things to day that the Nigerian state needs a few more like Mr Jakande.
God Help All in Nigeria.
