Being that the word "racism" is virtually never mentioned in most Nigerian-authored materials about other parts of the world, a lot of young people travel to Europe/America totally unprepared for the experience of racism. Nigerian (and other African) youth in places like Eastern Europe continue up to this very moment to suffer severe social hostility, isolation and daily hate crimes, whose effect is intensified by the absense of family or friends. Not infrequently a number of them end up in mental institutions.
Very strangely, Nigerians (and their government) seem to be one group of Africans who have a poor awareness of racism, and it isn't only Nigerian students that suffer for this crass ignorance, but also, indirectly, the Nigerian people.
