We had no game plan, played on luck and the supposed experience of the players without any decent output from the bench, hence we couldn't beat a bunch of starving (i mean fasting) Tunisians.

Hero of the day - Osaze Odemwingwe.

Villain of the day - Taye Taiwo.

All said and done, the whole team was abyssmal in its application today.

Default Re: WC Qualifier - NGR vs TUS: What Is The Match Going To Be Like?

Taiwo has always looked too slow for that position from day one. He has a good shooting ability and was more effective during his days in the flying eagles but since joining the super eagles, his play has detoriated and he has been largely inconsistent. These days he reminds me of a struggling Babayaro during his last days in the eagles. His play is largely lackluster, indecisive, slow and clumsy. I thought the super eagles managers realised that when he was left out of the Paris friendly for a younger player but obviously the age long belief that 'the older the better' , a mentality that is widespread within official circles in Nigeria, still holds sway in dictating who plays for the eagles. That is why the talk of bringing Okocha back was even discussed at a pont recently.

Yet the big blame lies with the fat bellied gworro and groundnut chewing 'big men' at the NFA. When they recruited Amodu from Jericho and unleashed him as the coach , many people smelt foul play. It is high time some of the ex members of the super eagles (especially the 1994 team) start taking over the management of Nigerian football. This idea of resurrecting Udemezeus and sinclair and the Bazuayes of this world to coach the eagles once again is pure madness . Modern management of football has moved on and left these characters behind. But the NFA keeps moving backwards..They know why they do so; Any serious minded ex-international will find it a bit too hard to tell you that the millions advertised as his wages are actually some kind of loot to be shared between him and the sweaty ogas with bottmless pockets at the glass house.

You know, I was going to rain abuses on the players. (I still blame the defense for the two goals) but after a bit of thought, we must blame the coach, Amodu and the NFA for putting him there. I mean, Joseph Yobo had to be sending in long balls from the defense to give the attackers something to work with! WHY???

I commended the changes that Amodu made by bringing on Enemaro, Nosfor and even Kanu, but even Kanu seemed to be quite clueless on what to do on the pitch. You have a team with good quality individual players, the coach needs to wave that induviduality into a team. This is one of the reasons also why despite the Zanetti, Messi, and Tevez, the Argentina team is ALSO struggling to make it. Directionless stars.

Nigeria I would say does not have anymore TOP notch players, (How many Nigerian players have been in the 3-5 top scorers in their respective teams?? Our two best producers in the recent past, Martins and Yakubu are nowhere in sight). But we have good enough players to make a difference and to beat any team, any day.

If the boys are refusing to play to the coaches instructions, then get them one they will listen to! I could not tell who was the ball distributor in that team. I do not know what Olofingiana was doing in that game. And also whats his name...Adeleke.

The defense is aging, Yobo is no longer a top performer, even in Everton, his is no longer seen as a top performer. Taiwo IMHO should be converted to a Midfield player, he likes to go up front too much and he does possess a hot shot that needs more oppurtunities on goal during a game that he gets as a defender, as a defender he only gets to unleash that thunderous shot from set pieces. he does not have the pace to keep up with fast strikers. Mikel Obi on the other hand is a defensive Midfielder! How many times has he shot on goal from a midfield position? So why not use him properly?

Ironically, I do believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with our strike force. Osaze, the Uche brothers, Obinna, Enemaro, and Obasi and always bring in Kanu as a sub to either slow a game down or to help distribute the ball.

Its either they find a good coach for these boys, or just disband the team for two years and dash them one local coach to build a new team. It baffles me why Samson Siasia is not the coach of the Super Eagles. So just ban them and let us all support Ghana jare! Nonsense!

Fact #1 Nigeria will not be at the South Africa 2010 World Cup, and deservedly so.

Fact #2 Nigeria is fast becoming the 'Netherlands of Africa' (only worse, as the Dutch do manage to qualify for the Competition proper before UNDER - PERFORMING).

Fact #3 In the long history of our national team the 'Not So Super Eagles', our achilles heels has always been our lack lustre defense. Looking at that match last Sunday, one wonders why the defense was all over the place (non - existent).

Fact #4 The fire brigade approach the No Future Ambitions administrators (NFA - rebranded NFF) always adopt is the bane of our football in Nigeria. They fail to prepare when it matters most, and in the dying seconds they (and their sponsors) set up a committee to induce success from a largely ineffective team, coached by an equally ineffective Manager.

Fact #5 There was nothing so special about the Tunisians that merited us managing a nonsensical 2 - 2 draw, if only our defensive players could manage self discpline. Imagine, as soon as we scored the frst goal, the players were still jubilating when the equaliser occurred. The second equaliser came larely because the players were not concentrating, thinking they had performed a 'great escape'. Why were or players always reluctant to shoot fromoutside the box? The Tunisisans did that effectively, and it paid handsomely for them. On the Super Eagles part, the were foreever trying to dribble the ball right through into the net. That to me smirks of stupendous stupidity, and unprofessionalism.

Now, i'm going to find out which 'correct team' to support now. Super Eagles won't be in South Africa in 2010, and even if by some miracle they did get there, we will be disgraced handsomely. Thus, i have no faith in them whatsoever. Chikenna.

Arrow Flop Eagles, FLOP!

Ah, I guess mywish may yet be fulfilled..

That Nigeria crashes out woefully in the contest

So we can avoid all that fake sense of euphoria

And face the many failures that await us at home - Amen!

I can understand your point very well auspi, but the fact remains that whether we qualiify for the South African Mundial or not in 2010, it will not change a damn thing with the people at the helm of affairs in nigeria. They will just divert their attention to other mundane jamboree. At least if Nigeria does qualify for the event, Nigerians are guaranteed some proper entertainment to keep them happy for a brief period of time.

Ever the consumate optimist, i somehow have this 'Strange feeling'that something unexpected is going to happen in the last two matches in Nigeria's group B. Now, it's a bit disheartening to read that Kenya's preparation has been distracted because of financial problems, but they are in a fight with Mozambique for third place, which will ensure they are at the African Nations Cup. So, herein lies my hope, that Kenya will some how get a draw in Tbliss, and Nigeria will win against Mozambique in Abuja. Then, Nigeria will unleach a torrent of goals against the Harambe Stars of Kenya in the last match. I think this group is going down to the wire, and it's not really over until the FAT LADY sings.

Thanks for the post.

This part of it
The blend of artistry and athleticism, the unshakeable confidence, the sheer joy of playing football – it was a compelling package
absolutely captures the notion of us @ football then in a haunting way.

It hurts so badly right now to have to think of it now....like it was an illusion.

We called them the Dream Team and saying our team of the 90s was a compelling package was just understating it.....Only Nigeria can defeat Nigeria sad!

Who was the tactical genius who decided that our game plan would be based on playing the long ball?

The Mozambique team has been the better team and don't deserve to lose this game

We have no business going to the WC with this bunch (cant call them a team). It was Osaze, Shittu and 10 ball watchers. What a pathetic display.

nothing tells our story, more than this match.
Incompetent, hopeful, wasteful and visionless. Its so anxious and sad.

My Hats off to Osaze Odem - who still found the will to play as though, something truly mattered. as though he had faith....and something was @ stake I don't blame the rest though, I understand... I do understand.

You know Bill, i can't fault you feeling that way at all. I went through all the emotions imaginable during that match today. Imagine a grown man coming to tears. Still, a little bit of my optimism has come true. All depends on the last games now. Hopefully Tunisia will draw or lose to Mozambique, and we will manage to conquer Kenya. It's going down to the wire. In this instance, the fat lady hasn't sang yet, though the tunes are beginning to sound like a dirge.
