FG doles out bonuses to CWG winners Full Report: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/04/fg-doles-bonuses-cwg-winners/ NS Comment: This is a commendable change, compared to the disgraceful sit-down strike which the athletes from the 2016 Rio Olympics had to embark upon over unpaid allowances and bonuses. However, the means of delivery needs to be improved. Delivering raw cash to athletes during competition exposes them to risks of being burgled. Worrying about the security of their cash can also be a source of distraction for those still involved in other on-going events. Using the banks should be the way to go. The beneficiaries will get the Bank Alert messages. The Ministry of Youth and Sports also needs to do more than paying bonuses to winners. Government needs to provide excellent facilities for training and to be involved in the funding of athletes during the preparation phase for global events. Nigerian athletes are invariably absent from events that need expensive equipment to practice and compete with. This needs to change, to place our youths on a common playing field with the rest of the world.
