Will somebody please tell me what use is this useless piece of paper the cops demand on the Expressway called CMR?of what value is it and why should cops demand it,particularly when you are driving a fine rideeven when the Inspector-General of Police has said nobody should demand for CMR from motorists? I did some private investigation and this is my finding.CMR is a piece of paper emanating from (The inspector general of police "B"dept, central motor registry,NPF,kam salem house,Lagos.the police fill in your car particulars plus your name and one ACP Ishola D.Abdulahi signs the document. They have also introduced another useless paper called (INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR CLEARANCE FOR USED VEHICLES IMPORTED TO NIGERIA).a government treasury receipt for the sum of 1000 naira is usually given to anyone who buys the CMR,but you have a list of ten vehicles lumped together for one receipt!is this clean business? Now to some vital questions?a)which agency of the Federal,State or local government is responsible for the data collation on used vehicles entering Nigeria:the FRSC,Police,State Ministries of transport or who exactly?(b)if the IG says cops should not demand the documents, why are they being issued in his name?(c)is it right for Custom officers at the borders to take "egunje",turn a blind eye as tokunbo vehicles stream into Nija only for the same Customs people to go all over our highways, ambushing private cars and demanding to see their custom papers?does this useless harassment happen in any other civilized Nation in Africa?have you been to checkpoints and seen that both the cops and customs officers came to the place in tokunbo vehicles too and yet, they are hassling other motorists passing by?who will save us from these useless harassments?
