Default Baby factory uncovered in Rivers

LINK: THE SUN

Officials of the River State Ministry of Social Welfare have uncovered a Home in Port Harcourt where pregnant young girls bear babies for sale.

It was gathered that after delivery, the young mothers usually trade away the unwanted babies to the syndicate for a fee ranging between N20,000 and N50,000 based on the agreed terms. Already, a woman (names withheld) who owns the child trafficking home has been handed over to the police for further interrogation.

Also, checks by Daily Sun revealed that no fewer than five pregnant girls were rescued from the home by welfare officials during the early morning raid. The alleged baby trafficking takes place inside a supposed Welfare Home for disabled persons located at Sagana Street in the Mile One, Diobu area of the capital city.

Sources stated that the lid was blown off the child trafficking ring by a girl who felt cheated in the deal she allegedly had with the head of the home.
The girl who is now on admission at the state-owned Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, Port Harcourt, was said to have taken her case to the Social Welfare Office. Suspecting a more serious illegal transaction at the home, the Social Welfare Ministry dispatched a team of its officials to the place and arrested the woman and a few others.

Unconfirmed but dependable sources alleged that a set of twins delivered recently by a girl in the home were given out by the syndicate to yet-to-be ascertained persons.
When contacted, one of the welfare officials involved in the raid but who would not want his name in print, told Daily Sun that the woman at the centre of the suspected child trafficking had been handed over to the police.

However, when contacted, police spokesperson in the state, Mrs Rita Inoma-Abbey (DSP) said she was yet to be briefed on the incident.

This is very common in Nigeria ke. Many miraculous pregnancies have been the result of some of these baby for sale scams.

All we do is just show up for the 'naming' ceremonies without really knowing where all these babies are coming from.

Many women who have not had children for years.....end up at church testimonials with a baby or twins....

If genetic studies are carried out on many of those children.....you will not be surprised at the results.

There are baby factories in many Southern States of Nigeria. I don't know about the North...but in the west, south and east.....them boku well well.

Where do you think most of those 'miraculous' pregnancies with strange babies come from?

I have observed that one baby can go as much as 500,000Naira. For twins....1.2 million Naira.....while these girls impregnated by only God knows are paid less than 30,000Naira.

The miraculously pregnant women usually have extremely large tummies that never go down even after the so called pregnancy has ended. Most of these babies are stolen too.

Like my friend will say:

"Lord, Please Come And Help Your People".

We need to get some facts right before commneting. Are the Babies used for rituals or something more deadly? Are they bought for safe keeping(Adoption)?

Hmnnnn............

Dewy you are scaring me.
Are you sure of what you are saying...Please, are you sure of this.
Because, these are the things you watch in horror movies, or read about in Margaret Atwood Novels, about cultlike dungeons somewhere, not in our own Nigeria.

Please if you are just being facetious, stop now....this is too unsettling, to be joked with.

I am not lying....I witnessed this myself. Too many sad stories my dear. This is one is real. I wish I could tell you the half of it. I know many women in Nigeria who have done this thing.

Nigeria is a scary place....I say I am not lying.

There is a particular case I am know of....my dear.....it is scary I say. This woman lives here in the US....and got embroiled in this baby scam of a thing. She got caught when she was told to do a DNA test on her child for immigration purposes...only to find out that the baby came from neither her nor her husband. The baby was born in Nigeria. Now she does not know what to do.

She now told of some people who did the same things...and some of these women have like 3 children or more from these scam markets.

I have a friend from Congo...when she tells me the kind of sh*t that goes on there, I smugly tell her, we are too evolved and enlightened in Nigeria to do such things.

It appears we are no better then.
Jeeze guuurll, you sure have dismantled some of my illusions, with those few lines above, I swear.
For ever, I have always believed, we are our brother's keeper, and that our soceity is so evolved, we protect the vulnerable in our midst and will give up our very lives to protect the 'orphan' in our midst, and thus there are levels, we do not sink to. Apparently, I am completely and utterly wrong in that assumption.

So people would rather pretend to be bio parents of children from scam business.
this is so wrong.
No vetting as to their suitability
No protection of the poor girls, who are having these kids
All because of poverty, these girls are giving up their babies, and these people think is OK to play make belief mummy and daddy, with other peoples kids eh?

Do they even counsel these girls, about the life long psychological trauma, that giving up their babies will cause them?
Chei....This is so unjust, unfair, and wrong on so many levels.

Just pray you do not witness this kind of horror.....these women sell everything from rotten placentas to old umbilical cords all to fake pregnancies....

The sad part is that they are backed up by corrupt politicians and Policemen...so the cases never go anywhere.

Shine your eye well well ooooooooooh. You are living in a bubble. If I were you...I will forever remain there. There are some things you really do NOT want to know about.

Police raids reveal 'baby farms'

From correspondents in Enugu, Nigeria

POLICE raids have revealed an alleged network baby "farms" or "factories" in Nigeria, forcing a new look at the scope of people trafficking in the country.

At a hospital in Enugu, a large city in Nigeria's southeast, 20 teenage girls were rescued in May in a police swoop on what was believed to be one of the largest infant trafficking rings in the west African country.

The two-storey building on a dusty street in Enugu's teeming Uwani district now stands deserted, shutters down.

Neighbours had long found something bizarre about the establishment, where there was virtually no activity during the day, they said.

The doctor in charge, who is now on trial, reportedly lured teenagers with unwanted pregnancies by offering to help with abortion.

They would be locked up there until they gave birth, whereupon they would be forced to give up their babies for a token fee of around 20,000 naira ($170).

The babies would then be sold to buyers for anything between 300,000 and 450,000 naira ($2500-$3800) each, according to a state agency fighting human trafficking in Nigeria, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

But luck ran out for the gynaecologist, said to be in his 50s, when a woman to whom he had sold a day-old infant was caught by Nigeria's Security and Civil Defence Service (NSCDS) while trying to smuggle the child to Lagos, the security agency said.

Statistics on the prevalence of baby breeding are hard to come by, but anti-trafficking campaigners say it is widespread and run by well-organised criminal syndicates.

"We believe the scope is much wider than we know," said Ijeoma Okoronkwo, head of NAPTIP.

"It has been happening over time, but we did not know. The first indication we had about this came in December 2006, when an NGO raised the alarm and told us babies were being exchanged for cash and that there were a number of hospitals involved."

The practice takes varying forms. One is where desperate teenagers with unplanned pregnancies, fearing ostracism by society, get lured to a clinic and are forced to turn over their babies.

The girls are so intimidated many can hardly relate their experience freely.

But one brave victim, an 18-year-old, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisal, recounted her week-long ordeal when she was trapped inside one of the clinics days before it was raided by police.

"The moment I stepped in there, I was given an injection, I passed out and next thing I woke up and realised I had been raped," said the girl, who was five months pregnant at the time of her ordeal.

When she asked if she could telephone her family to let them know of her whereabouts, the doctor slapped her on the face.

She was shoved into a room where 19 other girls were kept; all had been through a similar experience. She said the doctor raped her again the following day. A week later police swooped on the clinic.

Another category of young women, driven by deep poverty, lease out their wombs and volunteer themselves, as regularly as is biologically possible, to produce babies for sale.

"When we raided the hospital, we found four women who had been staying at the clinic for up to three years, to breed babies," NSDCS boss for Enugu state commandant Desmond Agu said.

The doctor, whom police named, "had been inviting boys to come and impregnate girls," said Mr Agu.

This was just one of around a dozen centres - masquerading as maternity clinics, foster homes, orphanages or shelters for homeless pregnant girls - unearthed in recent months where babies were swapped for cash, said the NAPTITP boss.

Last month police swooped on a so-called foster home, not far from the Enugu police headquarters, where seven pregnant teenage girls and five workers were rounded up, residents said.
Notice how all the important names...like that of the 'Doctor Death' are withheld? What kind of investigation is this? Many stories like this. The man is back in business trust me.

I read that story from another Nigerian website...and I was shocked too. Till I met that lady who said she had 'fallen' for one of those scams. She was so desperate for a child that she fell hard for one of those scam things.

My prayers too.

Abit of political correctness here but who cares. A "Pastor" resident in the UK named Gilbert Deya was embroiled in a very messy case similar to the issue being discussed and his ministry folded up only for him to "reappear" about 2 years ago and now a popular face on Christian Channels. Deya took Women who became "pregnant" at his miracle service to his village, somewhere in Kenya I think and these pregnant returned to the UK with bouncing babies after nine months. He was smoked out when a Matron in one of the hosiptals spoke out about the acts. It was a very big issue in the UK and still surprised how he got off the hook

I am sorry but its highly irritating watching this "Man of God" on TV. He operates a private TV station.

Lord have mercy!

So that my teenage daughter will be kidnapped by one ritualistic gynecologist.....to be locked up and raped by armed robbers.....so her baby can be sold to the highest bider?

When e reach your turn....you go care by force. Make we all siddon for diapora dey eat hamburger.

1. They have been kidnapped and locked up. Raped and forced to have babies by their captors. Some are killed so they do not reveal the secrets of the secret societies.

2. Or they willingly choose to disappear from their families and friends so that no one knows they were ever pregnant. To save face from the stigma of unwanted pregnancies. To avoid having abortions. The re-appear later to the joy of their family and friends who proceed to give a massive thanksgiving service heralding the return of the 'jedi' and for save passage from the 'underworld'. The lady knows better....but chooses to narrate how "God" saved her from the hands of ritualists and men/women from the underworld.

Till the babe disappears again to make some quick money.

No physical examinations necessary. Case closed...."The Lord Is Good...All The Time"....We know!

The tin wey poverty dey cause eh? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Most of those Nigerian Churches with so-called 'orphanages' are have baby factories too either stolen or from teenagers/women forced to give up their babies under serious hypnosis.

Shey uan say una be Nigerians....Una no sabi wetin dey happen for una country...abi na only 'politics' una fit to discuss?

hmmm as far as i'm concerned both choices show that there is something seriously wrong in our faithful country, and if parents would rather hide thier daughters in such conditions (possibility that they were even impregnated by a family member) then it truly is bad.....At times I try to stay positive about Nigeria, but its like the more you hear the more hope you loose. either way I hold on to faith.
This really is frightening. Have humanbeings truly gotten to this point in life were they can see a child as a sale item.
Giving away a purpose, a destiny and i'm sure in that group of children generation changers????
No body knows or can validate what happens to these precious children after they are sold.
My God, it is truly in Nigeria that you can hear and see it all....

Actually the children are well taken care of......by the families who bought them. Since the women have faked the pregnancies anyway....the babies are sources of 'joy' for the men and wives. Every body is happy. Other babies are used for ritualistic purposes of course......there are enough unwanted babies to go around for sure.

People scream about paternity tests all over the world.....In Nigeria.....you will be shocked to find out that many of those children coming from 'testimonials' are not biologically related to the many of those women.

You will also find out that of all most of those with 'repeated' miracle wonders of the fruit of the womb.....the children are NOT related to each other.....no genetic relationship can be established. Interesting I say.

Just my research findings.

Haba! This thing has been going on for a long time now......it's actually old gist. Enugu used to be their headquarters until they started to crack down on the doctors doing it there. Looks like they've moved base now. Too many eyes were on Enugu at some point. I never heard before that any of the girls were held against their will though. Some of these people lie to escape the trouble they could get into when they are caught. If people are really being held against their will then it has reached an even more disgusting level. I tire for Nigeria. Why people cannot go through normal adoption routes, I don't know. Yes, it takes time to legally adopt but why pay money for a child?
