Lightbulb Annual Health Physicals For Women...

A health topic of course...and deliberately not posted "Healthwise".....No anonymous handles welcome here other than your already anonynmous monikers.....thank you!

Yes O! It is the time of the year again before my birthday.....I have just undergone yet another annual physical....

....and boy, it keeps getting complicated every year. I never look forward to them.

My internist....God bless her heart always finds something.....always digging for gold.....

Here goes....Ladies, how well are you taking care of yourselves?

For those of you in Nigeria....my sympathies. I had to do an annual physical in Nigeria last year and could not get a "pap" smear....I was referred to another state because the lab in the hospital where I went did not have the storage facility to accomodate such a simple request.

Yup....there is your "Giant" of Africa for you.

Why is it that the only thing MOST Nigerian women look out for is a + pregnancy test....even if they are terminally ill?.....Nothing else matters but that almighty fruit of the womb?

According to the real specialists:

What every woman needs to know and when she needs to know it

AGES TWO TO SEVENTEEN
Every girl should have an annual physical examination by her pediatrician that includes the following:

Her growth patterns should be monitored.
Her blood pressure should be measured.
A CBC (complete blood count) should be performed.
If a sibling, parent, or grandparent has a cholesterol level in the ninety-fifth percentile, the child should have a lipid profile. If her total cholesterol is less than 150 and her HDL is higher than 40, the test need not be repeated for five years.
If she is sexually active, she should have a Pap test.

AGES EIGHTEEN TO TWENTY-NINE
By age eighteen, every woman should have an annual physical with an internist.
A Pap test and a complete pelvic exam should be done during her annual physical.
By age twenty, every woman should have at the least a screening test to determine total blood cholesterol. If the level is more than 240 mg/dl, she should have a complete blood lipid profile to determine HDL-LDL breakdown and triglycerides.
If a woman takes oral contraceptives, she should have a lipid profile done annually.

AGES THIRTY TO THIRTY-NINE
As part of her annual physical, by age thirty every woman should have a complete blood lipid profile. If it is within normal range, it need not be repeated for five years. However, if she has any risk factors for CAD (family history, obesity, smoking, etc.) it should be redone every two years. If a woman takes oral contraceptives, the lipid profile should be done annually.
A Pap test and pelvic exam should be done annually.
Between ages thirty-five and thirty-nine she should have a baseline mammogram. If the mammogram is normal, it can be redone every two years. If she has a family history of breast cancer, her physician may recommend it more often.

AGES FORTY TO FORTY-NINE
As part of her complete physical, by age forty a woman should have an electrocardiogram (EKG) every year.
Every two years, she should have a mammogram.
A Pap test and a pelvic examination should be done each year.
Every year she should have a blood lipid profile.

BY AGE FIFTY, THE FOLLOWING TESTS SHOULD BE PERFORMED ANNUALLY
Mammogram
Lipid profile
EKG
Annual Physical
***Ladies....as long as you are married or sexually active...You need to always request for the big 4(STD screening....HIV, HERPES, GONORRHEA and CHLAMYDIA/TRICH....the fish smell test ) with your annual physical labs.....even if you have to pay out of pocket expenses. I always do YEARLY....

***Also make sure you are up-to-date with your flu shots...immunization titers(Hepatitis, Chicken Pox, Rubella,).....

Tetanus shots over 10years ago....please repeat.

***Dental care...a MUST...annual cleaning necessary.

***Eye exams....a MUST...especially if you suffer from presbyopia/amblyopia....and all the other 'opias' and 'exos'like I do....Get you a goooood optician to hook you up with the best designer glasses for your needs....learn to do your exe exercises so you can at least take good pictures without hiding behind some ugly dark glasses.....

Take care of yourself, before you dream of taking care of others....Learn to nurture yourselves first.

Take goooooooooooood care of your pussies....Never let them smell or discharge any thing other than the consistency of 'egg' whites...(periods are okay, can't be helped).....

No cottage cheese or the likes...thank you....

Please throw in a diabetes screening/test sometime in the early 20s especially if there is a family history of diabetes, frequent UTIs, increasing thirst, increasing urination, unexplained rapid weight loss or if obese (BMI > 35).

It is also important to consider a full body work up and blood tests for both parties before marriage to prevent any "suprises".
