Has anyone ever been "harassed" for breastfeeding in public? Kindly share or if you know of other similar stories. Thanks!

No....I don't know anyone who has been 'harassed' for booby-juicing in public places because it is just not done where I live...period!

I don't like to breast feed in public...In the cilivilzed world...women DO NOT breast feed in public for infection control purposes. I alway had expressed milk frozen, thawed or refrigerated....or fed the babies from bottles when in public places.

It is outright tacky and just do not like to see such unsightly feeding tools flapping all over the place....not to mention the smell of breast milk....yuck......sticky and gumming to all surfaces around the neighbourhood.....

Please if you want to breast feed take yourself and your boobs to a secluded area.

Yes...spare us the possibly infectious bodily fluids you may be contaminating the whole place with. Some women carry HIV or Herpes and this is transmitted in bodily fluids.....

Bottom line...keep your germs to yourselves....and do ya 'baby friendly' mess in your car or in designated areas only.

You are not in Nigeria please....

Thanik you.

So, why would anyone harass any other person for breast feeding a baby in public. If the thing dey offend ya eyes, comot ya eyes. The baby is not complaining and the mother exposing her boobs is not also complaining.

Nobody harasses anybody for that in Nigeria. If it happens in your side of the world it means una still be bush people - very uncivilized.

I have to say that Babine’s write up made me laugh, I have to assume there is some level of “tongue-in-cheek” flavor to it. But, I do agree with some of the points she made. There should be some level of discretion applied when breastfeeding in public.

Mikky Jaga, you’d be surprised. What I have found is that in this society for some reason there is hypersensitivity on both sides when it comes to this issue. There are those who are pro-breastfeeding who are extremely militant about it. They, in fact, make it seem that a woman who does not breastfeed is only a step up from a child abuser. They cease every opportunity to drill into their offending non-breastfeeding counterparts all the developmental issues and diseases that would befall their children because of their “selfishness”. Staging breastfeeding protests, for crying out loud is over the top!

On the other hand, those who choose not to breastfeed also need to be comfortable enough with their decision not to allow just a mere raising of the topic get under their skin. Haba! To the point where breastfeeding became hot button discussion on some radio talk shows. Ki lo le to yen!

Personally, I was not “harassed” for breastfeeding. I didn’t go looking for trouble and I used discretion.

Its hard to believe that such crap in the guise of public hygiene is coming from a lady. It is true that some ladies flaunt it but I hope only to make the point that when a baby is hungry, especially the very young, ladies should be able to breast feed without showing everything.

It's happened many times, California actually had to make a law to support mothers. I think it's because the culture is so "sexed up". Pornography rules (for the most part) and indecency abounds so people are "over sensitized" to certain parts of the body...it's really unfortunate.

Very Very unfortunate and hypocritical too. I mean these are same set of people that ogle different shapes ad sizes of breasts displayed in newspapers and magazines.

ALLOW LITTLE CHILDREN TO FEED ON DEMAND, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

Breastfeeding in public places, I don’t do it because I don’t like it but will not go harassing anyone on their personal choice. I have never seen or heard of anyone gotten harassed for such.

I am of the opinion that, what is worth doing is worth doing well, hence if a baby is to be breastfed, for the sake of both parties involved; (Mother and child) there is need to do it in an appropriate environment; except for unavoidable cases; which should be done moderately.

You know you remind me of Punch Newspaper page 3 girl, when I was growing up that newspaper used to have a white lady's photograph with her breasts exposed, I wonder if they still do it....
